NCAA Football 13 - Will they get MSU right

  • I want to know if they will finally get Michigan State right. Last year, they had the wrong field graphics and the wrong green, which kept me from buying the game. Now I see they got the green fixed (See pic attached) and they will have the Pro Combats from last year available if you pre-order from Amazon.

Now, the next question is, did they fix the field graphic? Get rid of the MSC smoke stack? I haven't been able to find conclusive evidence of these issues being fixed.

Also, It doesn't look like they will have the new scoreboards in the game. if you look at the 2nd attached pic it clearly shows the old scoreboard. Hopefully they could fix it in a patch (even though that is highly unlikely). Furthermore, if you look at the attached video, around 0:35 you see Sparty and the old scoreboard in the background. We've had the concept art out there for almost a year now, I can't believe they can't put it in. They even updated ECU's field. ECU!

Another minor observation is they have the Spartans wearing low-cut socks. It should be mid-cut.

I really hope that they get MSU right this year. They are too big and good of a school to get disrespected by EA again. Heck, Iowa was just corrected last year after 3 years of a grey face mask.

Tell me what you guys think

EDIT: After looking at the video, it looks like they have the MICHIGAN STATE wall in the back of the student-side end zone. Maybe that means correct field graphics?

  • Unlikely. Will Campbell will be rated low 90's for good measure.

Ok, really, you don't buy the game because the color is wrong and the field graphics are wrong? I mean, to each their own, but to me, gameplay is a hell of a lot more important than getting the "correct" color green. It's nice when they get it right, but it's by no means a deal breaker.

As for the scoreboards, I'm sure they'll be wrong. It usually takes a year for any major stadium changes to go into the game since the creators want to see them for real first (and not just an artist or architect's drawings). As for the socks, it's customizable by player. While it might look in the video like they're all wearing short socks, you can easily change that if that's a deal breaker for you.

the new scoreboards aren't even fully installed in the actual stadium yet, of course they won't be in the game

and also that green is better but could still be a little darker IMO

Is there going to be a way to do this without ordering from Amazon? I usually take the day off work and kind of like having either at midnight or at 9 AM when my local GameStop opens. Even with Amazon, you're still at the mercy of your UPS driver and nothing gets to my house before the afternoon, even if sent next day air.

Well, Gameplay is very important to me too. Thus why I haven't purchased an NCAA football game since 08 on PS2.

I thought last year was a great improvement over the previous few years, but a lot of people failed to look into the changes in gameplay. They tried to play the game without learning new control tricks/rules (especially for passing) and they didn't enjoy the game. If you actually took the time to learn the nuances of the game, last year was a greatly improved game

Amazon has the game on 360 for $45

In one of the podcasts the developer talked about being burned a few times modifying stadiums based on concept art. They said going forward they would only be updating stadiums after they are completed.

They also talked about a new 360* scanning technology that they started using last year. (Likely to start prepping for the next-gen consoles) This year they will start scanning every stadium on the game to create new models. They won't be manually editing the existing environments. anymore. That means Spartan Stadium will remain as it is until an EA team comes to East Lansing. Hopefully we are high on their list for an update.

  • PS. I only plan on buying the game if Play Action passes are finally un-fucked this year. That's been my rule since '09.

Again, they worked fine last year. I ran at least 10 per game (10 out of about 30 passes). If you learn to use the pass protection settings, it wasn't that hard to play action pass. The only time it didn't work was if the team sent an all-out blitz and that's pretty true to life. I'd say once out of every 4-5 games I'd have a bad experience with the play action pass models.

Oh, and on another subject, I realized the game is being released on my wedding anniversary. I might end up ordering from Amazon this year because I know I won't be playing much on the release day.

  • I still play NCAA '07 on the original XBox, but I'll probably buy the new game for PS3 this year. I really liked last year's hurry up system in my limited play time with the game. I don't really care if all the stadium details are correct, as Goud said, gameplay is what really matters. I don't love the "new" controls (even though they're like 6 years old at this point), but there have been enough innovations over the past couple years that it feels like the new game will be worth my money. As long as the gameplay is tight and MSU's players are rated fairly, I can overlook minor details like an old scoreboard or the MSC smokestack.

Haha, this is hilarious cause if I had my X-box down here in OK instead of Michigan I'd be playing 2004. I still have 2007 frmo when I got my 360 and have played (mostly simmed) a few seasons.

I honestly hardly play the game, I mostly enjoy the recruiting while trying to improve my ever involving team due to leaving early for the draft/bad prospect/graduation.

I played a retarded amount of NCAA 2004. I think I did 6 seasons on the default difficulty in a Nebraska dynasty (I loved the Huskers when I was a kid, my first memories of college football involve Tommie Frazier running all over UF), won like 4 heismans with a recruited RB that had around 98 speed. That game was awesome.

I've got you beat. Originally played a created team for about a season. After that I played 2 seasons with a team, and 1 season with that team and 2 others (that was rough, every week lasted forever). Finally i became a MSU fan, and played them for about 10 seasons before I finally started to just sim games (playing one or two a season) and doing the recruiting. I'm sure I'm missing some, I think I played a few others here and there, but nothing substantial.

Fun little nugget: THERE IS AN ENDING! After 40 seasons my coach was forced into retirement lol. And now I'm sad that I've shared this info.

I'm proud to know someone, even via internet, that has followed NCAA 2004 to its logical conclusion. You are a scholar and a gentleman.
