8/14 teams make it in the West 8/16 teams make it in the East
So a western team has a higher percentage chance of making the postseason. After all of the minutia the sides fought over the past 2 years I figured this would be a sticking point and I'm not sure the NHL would have resisted pushing C-bus back West.

My thought on it:
The West has a harder time during the year with travel and all. If they're going to give an advantage (hadn't thought about this, so thanks for the insight), they minus well give it to the West teams. West teams' 'path to the playoffs', so to speak, is harder. So cut them a break. Plus, I think there's some amount of foresight into the prospects of more teams expanding out west than in the eastern half.

Well, you've got a league that is rumored to want teams in Hamilton, Quebec City, Kansas City and Seattle as far as new markets.
Either:
A. One team moves from east to west in the endgame, or
B. They continue with the unbalanced number of teams in order to satisfy those markets and get to 32 teams.Fuggawe_Tribe
