Name me a better comedian currently than Louis CK

    Did you know that Louis C.K. is half Mexican? It blew my mind when I found out. He lived in Mexico City until he was 8, his first language is Spanish, most of his family lives in Mexico, and he still has Mexican citizenship.

    Hispanics must piss their pants when they hear CK since they somehow get a chuckle out of George Lopez.

    yep...his mother is a mexican catholic and his father is a hungarian jew. that's a helluva combo.

    I almost died when he said something about being way more Mexican than Carlos Mencia or George Lopez in a podcast interview he did a while back lol

  • oh, and his tv show is the single most brilliant piece of comedy work ever done for TV. it's so real it scares the shit out of half the audience who just don't know what to do with his profoundly moving, totally laid bare honesty. The episode with Doug Stanhope was one of the most amazing half hours of anything i've ever seen.

    I cannot fucking watch his show. I get so embarrassed for his character. Really uncomfortable. Embarrassingly so.

    His mother is Irish Catholic and from Michigan. His paternal grandmother is the Mexican Catholic. Obviously his mom lived in Mexico for a while, but she is not a Mexican Catholic. You need at least two people with some serious recessive white genes to make someone who looks like him (Irish Catholic and half Hungarian will do it). I doubt any actual Mexican mother has a child that is that white.

    Completely agree, his show is amazing, and Lucky Louie was great too but I think it was just too early, no one knew his name or knew what to expect besides comedy geeks. But I've been saying Louie CK was the best since his first Comedy Central half hour special, it was mind blowingly good, and he was holding back in that one, as I watched more and more of his stuff it only got better and better.

    And the Duckling episode of Louie is probably one of the better pieces of television I've ever watched.

    The scary thing is, I get that feeling from Doug Stanhope. From the people who know him think that stuff can sometimes be close to the truth with him. The guy is funny as hell, but also troubled beyond belief. Many comedians are scared by him and the stuff he pulls.

    Although the line "It's not your life, it's life!" is actually a pretty simple yet amazing thing to say.

    The Stanhope one was Season 2, Episode 9. Ducking is season 2, episode 11.

    Yeah, he manages to touch on life more truthfully than a lot of shows without you realizing it sometimes. I think if Seinfeld is a show about nothing, Louie is a show about everything, but they look the same on the surface, you gotta watch it for more than just the up front humor to get whats behind it.

    When I watch Louie it's like watching an arthouse picture that is actually funny. There is a reason his shows gets ridiculously high praise from critics. He actually touches on things no normal show would touch with a ten foot pole, makes it poignant, and still makes you laugh your ass off. His shows have no rhyme or reason, but always has sincere human emotion. It is simplistic and funny at the same time. There is a reason so many comedians hold him up as the gold standard of artists in their profession.

    The great thing is he is a normal freaking guy creating art. He is not Andy Warhol. He is not Pablo Picasso. He is not someone people cannot relate to. He is an average, run of the mill guy who isn't caught up in being an artist, yet creating art and comedy at at the same time. It can actually be amazing to watch at times.

    I know you're an expert in genetics and all (or stayed at a Holiday Inn last night), but there are many "actual Mexicans" who are white (obviously not the majority, but enough that it's not uncommon... especially in northern Mexico). Most Mexicans have some sort of European ancestry. Mexican is a nationality, not a race.

    That being said, his father is the Mexican one, not his mother (you're right that she's an Irish Catholic from Michigan). His grandfather was a Hungarian Jew and his grandmother was a Mexican Catholic. His father was born in Mexico, and Louis C.K. was raised there.
