Need Blender Recipes (smoothie/salsa/sauces/etc.)

  • Just bought an NJ600. $20 off right now at bed bath and beyond, as well as a 20% off coupon if you sign up for their emails on their website (can later be cancelled). Total price $65 with tax for a blender that so far is great. Made a few smoothies, no chunks, pretty close to restaurant quality blenders I'd guess.

Now, I need recipes. I've bought some stuff to make salsa but I'm curious if anyone has some good recipes for it. I prefer the salsa from mexican restaurants like Fiesta Chara (best salsa ever til the closed down). I'm also looking for some copy cat recipes from places like Eden's Juice (creamsicle smoothie is amazing). Hell, I might even make my own spaghetti or bbq sauces if some people offer them up.

Current favorite recipe is a strawberry malt.

Few scoops of butter pecan ice cream, couple tablespoons of malt, a few fresh strawberries, add milk to desired consistency, blend. The butter pecan ice cream is what makes this thing. Blows away plain vanilla ice cream malts.

    Also, alcoholic beverages are appreciated.

  • Haha, saw this title and was like damn, I need to pull that blender back out, then noticed I started it 7 months ago.

If you're looking for healthy meal supplement type stuff, I throw some strawberries, a banana, some chopped up fresh kale, a little plain yogurt, milk or orange juice depending on the person, and a little honey if you want it sweeter. I'm sure adding some whey protein or chia/flax would also boost the protein and add some calories.

Still wish I could find a great salsa recipe I could make once a month and keep in the fridge.

the fresh salsa we get from the local market here has to be eaten in a couple days or it goes bad. not sure you could keep fresh, all natural salsa in the fridge for a month without using some preservatives.

If you're going to make large amounts of salsa, can it and it will keep for a long time.

    That's debatable.

  • quick, good salsa

    blend:

2 12 oz cans diced tomato (start with 1 with the other ingredients, then add the other at the end blended separately -- or not -- if you want)
1 jalepeno (remove seeds if you want less heat)
2 tbs minced garlic (i use the jar kind but fresh is great)
    1 bunch of fresh cilantro
    juice of 1 lime
    1 sweet onion
    1 tbs sugar
    salt to taste

This is similar to how I have made it before but used fresh tomatoes, and made about 10 times as much and canned it. I also added white vinegar, and in addition to jalapenos, about 8 other different kinds of peppers. There really is not a science to it, just add peepers and tomatoes till it looks good.

  • Guess I'm going to have to go to the store and buy some ingredients... might have to look into doing some canning this summer as well.
