Need San Diego restaurant advice ITT

  • Going to be in SD Wed-Sun for business, will have dinner open to go out in town every night except Thursday. Been to LA and SF before, never SD.

There have to be some kick ass restaurants in the area. I am staying at the Omni in the Gaslmap district. Also, the high for the week is 71. Going to be a nice break from metro Detroit, where its going to be hot as hell.

  • Miguel’s for Mexican food. Located on Coronado across from the Hotel Del.

On your way back to downtown, stop at McP’s Irish Pub on the main drag (Orange Ave) for a few pops.

Sounds good. You know any local places that would carry the Tigers/Cards game tomorrow night?

McP's has the MLB sports package via DirecTV. They'll put the game on for you. Just ask.

  • I'm a fan of the YardHouse, which is on the edge of the district. Awesome beer selection, great american pub food, and plenty of tvs for sports. Also enjoy Sevilla, a spanish place that's just a block or two from your hotel.

  • If you are a craft beer fan hit Toronado, Tiger Tiger and Hamiltons. Also, if the Padres are playing you can get standing room tickets for very cheap. The stadium is in Gaslamp.

  • If you are staying in Gaslamp there about 100 restaurants on 4th and 5th Ave. A few of may favs downtown are Rama (thai, awesome), Oceanaire (seafood), Ruths Chris/Flemings/Donovans/Mortons (all steak houses downtown). Hard Rock is cool and has a few places to eat and party. Altitude, Ivy, and J Bar have cool roof top bars/lounges. have fun.

Barleymash has a pretty good beer selection.

Funky Garcias is pretty good for Mexican and has some authentic items that I hadn't seen since I was last in Mexico. (and a pretty awesome Taco Tuesday, check hours/google it.)

    Both are in Gaslamp/downtown.

  • Nice. Since I am staying in Gaslamp, it seems like all I need to do is fall out the front door and there will be tons of options.

Really looking forward to it. Haven't had some really good, authentic Mexican in a while and I assume there aren't shortages of Mexican places there.

  • Get a burrito and take it to the beach.

IMO, the best Mexican food near downtown, in Old Town, used to be Casa De Pico. Unfortunately, they moved out to La Mesa several years back. It’s not all that far from downtown if you have wheels. From the Gaslamp District, take 163 north through Balboa Park, past the zoo to I-8 and head east. It’s located in the Grossmont Center. Seriously outstanding Mexican food.

  • Do not go to Old Town under any circumstance. Over priced tourist trap with little parking. Well, maybe the haunted house....on weed!
