New hockey uniforms

  • They are coming according to Anastos on a Freep chat today:

    "We too will be introducing some new uniforms for next season that we think are really cool and that our players are really excited about. We will have a new home and road uniform, and we are also really excited about introducing a new vintage uniform. I'm confident our fans will be pumped...."

    Anastos has got to be a script Michigan State guy - bring back the script!

    Also, hockey has long had the darker green close to what we have now so that shouldn't be a concern.

    I see no reason they can't use a script (especially on the "vintage" model) and not stay within the branding. If keeping with branding means no script then it means no script. A hockey logo is not bigger than MSU athletics no matter how popular it may be.

    I just wasn't into all teams being forced to go with the same font and what not. Especially with me being a hockey guy and believing it to look inferior to what was a pretty long standing tradition of michigan state hockey uniforms.

    I don't like our current uniforms, particularly the homes, and am pretty excited about this announcement. Even if it doesn't involve the script, I have hopes that they will be better than what we currently have.

    EDIT: Honestly, i think our away uniforms look pretty good as far as script-less options go. It's just our homes that I find to be pretty gross.

    I just wasn't into all teams being forced to go with the same font and what not. Especially with me being a hockey guy and believing it to look inferior to what was a pretty long standing tradition of michigan state hockey uniforms.

    I'm the opposite. Our homes are okay, but the roads look like they threw them together on MS Paint. Small font and a number in the middle looked dumb as hell.

    Is the home dark/light? I think the white uniforms are nice but the green ones are awful looking. They should have went with Spartans instead of Michigan State because it actually fits (plus it makes more sense with the branding stuff really). They could raise the lettering all up as well, and maybe increase the numeral size. I think using "SPARTANS" diagonally with the new font on the green ones would be a good mix of older/newer. The script jersey could be used as an alternate to appease the older folks.

  • I recall a pair of Anastos tweets that said fans of the old script logo and lace-up collars would be happy with the change. Therefore, I assume that I'll be quite happy. That script logo epitomized the excellence of the Mason era.

    It'll be interesting to see the reaction from this fanbase regarding the new sweaters, though. I know that most people here loved spartan helmet home sweater yet hated the newest away design.

    And it's about damn time MSU gets its third sweater back.

    It looks fine if it isn't cluttered. Case in point, Miami's old away jerseys.

    MSU's current away jersey design is ridiculously cluttered. Way, way too much text on that top arch. IMO, with the current away template, if they put "Michigan" on the top, downward arch, "State" on a bottom, inverted arch, and the number in the center, the design would be more palatable.
