A batter doesn't have to earn a walk nearly as much as he earns a hit. That's why a no hitter with 5 walks is still very impressive.

My brother said a fan rushed the field and was jumping up and down with the team for a decent amount of time before getting tackled. Anybody see this?

Standing there and watching the ball is just as hard as getting a hit in the Major Leagues? I'm not saying players don't earn walks, but getting a hit is much harder.

Impressive. Seems like no-hitters are becoming more common however, and thus somes sentiments, whether right or wrong, is that it is not nearly as 'cool' when allowing 5.6.7... walks.

Yeah, the guy celebrated for an eternity before security realized it. Obviously not happy as a Cardinals fan, but that was pretty funny to see. Congrats to Johan and the Mets.

I'll disagree.
Either way though, a single and a walk is a man on base. If a guy throws a NH with a bunch of walks it prob just means he was throwing balls all night and people were stupid enough to swing at bad pitches. It takes a lot discipline to lay off of pitches and take a walk.
The 5 walk NH is impressive for sure, just no where near a perfect game or a NH with 1 or 2 walks. I would be more proud of throwing a 4 single CG shutout.

But there's such a thing as being effectively wild as a pitcher. If you're throwing several balls, it becomes tough for hitters to sit on a pitch. If you can do this effectively while avoiding a big inning, you're doing a great job.

When I pitched, it was a lot easier to get a walk off me than to get a hit. Actually, pretty close to impossible to get a hit off me because I couldnt find the damn strikezone. [hahahaha]
Actually, I pitched a shit-ton of BP, but only 1 pitch in an actual game. I was brought in to drill a kid, and then went back to 3B.
