  • Here is my, and I think our, best hope:

They start by putting um and o$u in the same division. The big move here is eastward expansion, and this allows the BT to put its two biggest brands in Atlantic households regularly, including the "big" game.

Putting MSU in the west then makes a lot of sense. It gives um a cross-over rival and helps maintain balance, (MSU-wusconsin-Nebraska vs. um-o$u-pedSU). More to our own interest, it gives us that Chicago market, keeps us playing traditional rivals, and keeps us the fuck away from o$u. So...

East: o$u, um, PedSU, Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, IU

West: MSU, wusconin, iowa, Minny, Nebraska, NW, Illinois

This pairs up a lot of rivals, and gives um and o$u record inflation. Also, it gives all those east coast elitist douchebags who go to um a chance to visit home. Everyone wins.

Only problem with that is Purdue and IU are further west than MSU

And let's be honest, very likely 8 out of 10 years, UM or OSU will win that division. Allow one for Penn St., and one in 10 for the out there dark horse.

As a fan, and as someone who hates both, that would suck.

Would suck if true. Only way MSU wins is if they are in same division as UM with OSU being in opposite half like now. If MSU is in opposite half you will have to root for them to beat your division rivals.

  • I hope MSU gets in a division with Rutgers, Maryland or both. I think playing them yearly is the best route for us to take advantage of the new recruiting grounds. This round of expansion will be a net loss for MSU if we only play the new members on a rotating basis.

Total agreement from me. A study I saw from a few years back showed that the most FBS recruits per competing FBS football programs in what is now current B1G territory were from Maryland/DC/ Northern VA up through New Jersey. The fewest were, much to my surprise, in Ohio/Michigan/Indiana, IIRC. Key factor is the glut of competing programs in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana over such a small region. Didn't read entire accompanying article, but I think I got the gist of what the map meant.

Who says you have to go purely by the compass? If the Big Ten were smart, they'd be pimping the hell out of the MSU-wusconsin rivalry. wusconsin playing Minny, iowa and Nebraska also makes a lot of sense. Give them o$u as a cross-over. Nebraska can play PedSU.
