Nobrainer Saturday um v tOSU

  • This thread is stupid. There's no way to know whether we want Ann Arbor or tOSU to win.

Ann Arbor could easily lose in Evanston on Wednesday.

tOSU could certainly lose to us at the end of the year.

There are simply too many games left to know which team losing benefits us more. So I'm just gonna watch on Saturday and then root for the Spartans on Sunday.

The only reason this thread is stupid is because people might actually root for UofM. Our scenario does not require such deviation from our usually scheduled loathing of all things Wolvie.

We definitely want UM to win, anyone who thinks otherwise is just a homer who can't get past the hate for UM.

I want what is best for MSU and OSU getting the additional loss means we could lose 2 more games and still probably get a piece of the title. (assuming we beat OSU at home and lose 2 road games and UM loses at least one more).

UM will lose again and even if they don't we still get a share with one road loss. If OSU wins we have to go 2/3 on the road and beat OSU at home just to get a share if OSU wins out.

If my hypothetical choices (and the reason this thread is stupid is because the choices really are hypothetical) are:

    (1) Ann Arbor wins one single basketball game and, consequently, MSU gets a title;
    (2) Ann Arbor loses one single basketball game and, consequently, MSU finishes one game from a B1G title;

I'm going to take (1) every time and twice on Sunday. Anyone who would choose otherwise isn't really an MSU fan, but rather is merely an "anti Ann Arbor" fan.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

If we finish the season with the best conference record in the toughest conference in the country with the toughest conference schedule of any team in the conference, we deserve the title. Period. Who cares which teams we lost to?

    Don't say moranic things.

Not looking to share anything. I want the outright title to come down to MSU vs OSU on senior night in East Lansing. I want the epic showdown between the two best teams in the conference. That game will be huge if both teams keep rolling over their opposition towards it. We can win out, and so can OSU.

Ah. Good catch. I always forget the "k".

  • In all seriousness, UM has a very low chance of beating OSU. That is a terrible matchup for them.

Nah...MSU controls its own destiny. MSU fans that root for UM are only doing so because they are either UM fans first or closet UM dick suckers.

UM beating OSU does nothing good for us.

This scenario is just like the football scenario...MSU fans that rooted for UM got their wish when UM took our spot in the Sugar Bowl.

A much more likely scenario is that you get that same showdown after both teams have lost a road game before March 4.

At least one. MSU could quite conceivably lose twice on the road before 3/4--and tOSU losses in both Ann Arbor and Evanston aren't out of the question.

By any measure we have the toughest schedule left, I want to win out as much as the next guy but I want a title more than anything. frankly I don't care a ton about sharing it, outright title great but I want the bar to be get a minimum of a shared title. And I think the best way to an outright title is for OSU to lose at UM and at MSU while we lose one on the road.

The only reason to root for OSU is if you think UM will win out and we may finish 2nd with 5 loses.

While I agree I am a homer who can't get over his passionate hate for UM, why do we want them to win? Worst case scenario is if UM wins the conference. If we win out and OSU wins out we control our own destiny. We don't need them to win.

Your assumption that UM will lose sounds awfully familiar to the idiots who cheered for UM against Nebraska this fall in football. We didnt need them to win then and we don't need them to win now.

This. And as far as UM winning out goes, unlikely. Among their other weaknesses, UM currently ranks 331 in bench minutes. Through fouls or fatigue, one or more of the remaining teams will get into UM's paper thin bench. They have zero margin for error.

this makes no sense, if you think UM will lose another game after this then why do you want OSU to beat them for their 6th loss?

If they beat OSU, UM is the most likely of the contenders to win out, IMHO.

    @ NW PUR @ ILL @ PSU

Without question. But keep in mind that Ann Arbor is also (1) currently one game behind the other contenders, and (2) has--after tOSU--three games against bubble teams desperate for wins.

So, Ann Arbor has the "easiest" schedule of the three contenders after this weekend, but let's not call it a cakewalk.

I disagree with the remaining schedule (all those teams are fighting for the tourney except PSU and even that is no gimmie on the road), but that would be the reason for wanting OSU to win. I think UM is the weakest of the top teams and the most likely to lose at least one more.

Wanting OSU to win means you are worried that UM ends up with 4 loses and we slip down to 5 loses. I think some people would rather see UM not get a title than MSU share the title, and that's sad.

  • From our buddy, Drew Freep, in his column today:

Does that mean Izzo will root for Michigan in its big game Saturday against conference co-leader Ohio State?

Izzo thought about that for a few seconds, his face scrunching into that look that a little boy gives his mother when she tells him the cough medicine doesn't taste all that bad. But the little boy knows otherwise.

"Hey, I'll root for them," he said grudgingly.

Does that mean he will be decked in maize-and-blue?

"I wouldn't go that far," he added.
