Norfleet is going to UM?

  • Cupboard was still bare in aa.

Freep listed 3-4 players who went elsewhere and Hoke called him in the last 24 hours before the dead period. Norfleet is 5' 8" and was listed as an RB/DB MSU has Nick Hill (5'7") at RB plus Sims, Nichol and Folino all listed at 5'9". Everyone else on the MSU roster and commit lists are 5'10" and above.

Cincy has 30 commits listed on Rivals without Norfleet. Very strange

Small with no 2nd gear or home run speed. Has some quickness but definitely a reach.

I haven't seen a real top end out of Nick Hill yet myself, though Nick runs with power, for a RichRod sized back, so I guess Norfleet is like a poor man's Hill or Jaren Hayes?

I know Hill ran some legit 40 times on his way in, but he seems 'Devin Thomas' fast, like a guy who will get 40 yards every return but couldn't go the distance on just the punter/kicker.

Marriage is like flying with kids, if the flight had 500 connections, never ended, Ted Striker were your pilot and you ate the fish.

  • Hoke dropped in with a late offer and the kid bit on it is what this appears.

I also was rooting for the guy at UC, now he's just another bug about to get squished by the spartans. Norfleet is a good player, no doubt, and um is better with him than without, but this is not the kind of signing that they want to see. I mean, this is basically the Justice Hayes situation all over again, and they are similar types of players. Really, they are both good, but kind of a continuation on the richrod tradition. These backs will work well out of the spread, but if they want to get serious they need to move to the pro-style, they know it, and moves like this hinder the progress in that direction. Good for Norfleet though, hopefully he comes out with a nice degree for someone who supposedly had trouble qualifying.

The chUMps might be recruiting him as a slot receiver or DB. He's rather small for either position, but very athletic. The parallel to Justice Hayes seems like a good one. It seems as though Hoke is trying to re-establish in-state connections by taking good athletes when he can get them, but you have to wonder how much it will help them when the guys they're getting (Hayes, Richardson, Hollowell, Taylor, Ojemudia, Norfleet) are undersized for their positions, especially in the B1G. When Dantonio re-established the MSU program in-state he did it with an emphasis on size and speed and it paid dividends even for the low-rated 2008 class. Coaching can only do so much when players are too small or too slow.

  • I liked the kid a lot when I saw his film. Then I saw Tompkins' film. I wasn't upset by taking a better player.

  • Everything I am seeing is that they promised him punt returning, kick returns, and slot back. Good pick up for UM as they have not had a home run threat kick returner with Stonum being out, he will be a counter for Drake who will be a big back, plus still have Fitz for two more years.

I am still hoping for Diamond and then I think this will be a class a UM fan can be very very happy about.

Thanks for updating us on Michigan's recruiting class, now go back to your board and be happy about it there because this ain't the place.

this. Northfleet is definitely an exciting athlete, but in no way shape or form would i rather have him than Tompkins.

That's awesome news!! I'll be sure to remember how positively Norfleets career started out before Will Gholston got a hold of him.

Did I miss this or did it just happen?

I really wanted this kid, I guess this will put an end to UM fans "higher academic standards" myth at least.

    Per Wiltfong twitter BTW

Didn't the coaches say we were only going to take one RB?

UM missed on all their guys down the stretch

  • The kid tore it up last summer across the nation in 7-on-7 drills, evidently put on a clinic in Florida as well. Got the 4 star ranking. #169 player in the nation. And Cincy was his destination. If a kid is a talent like that and really worth it, you'd better believe MSU, um, uw, Ill, etc would be after him his whole year.

That said, I was happy to have him going to Cincy, as I saw him as one of those MI kids who would burn us every time we played as payback...

  • He is what I know. After watching the film on Thompkins there is no way in Hell I would trade him for Norfleet. Thompkins has ability that FAR surpasses Norfleet. Nick is going to be sick mofo

Is he as tough as with Smith? If so, he will play.

    14. Dennis Norfleet Detroit King RB, KR/5-6, 180 Commitment: Cincinnati Best recruiting experience: I enjoyed the whole process. I had the chance to talk to so many coaches and so many D-1 prospects. Just all of the excitement of getting a chance to play in college made it special. Worst recruiting experience: I enjoyed everything. Why not MSU? There's not really a reason. Some people say the Big East isn't as good as the Big Ten. That's not it. Michigan State is a great school. It just didn't fit. Why not U-M? I didn't even get a look from Michigan

The easy guess would be a UM offer?

I think you're a bit confused. I wasn't worrying about the stars, I was pointing out that there are plenty of cases of guys who don't have 4-5* next to their name outperforming some with inflated rankings.

That is what they say about him is that he plays bigger than his size, but you know how that goes. I like his film, but we will see how it plays out.

I'm not sure if he is going to be able to keep his shiftiness when he adds the muscle needed to survive in Big Ten play. He is listed at 170lb but he looks like a wire.

I hear ya, probably should have quoted the first post referencing Tompkins. Just annoyed with saying stars don't matter then creaming ourselves when we get a high rated guy or bitching that someone is rated higher than someone else.
