Notre Dame AD confident playoff will have room for Irish

  • "Swarbrick, like Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany, thinks a final decision regarding a playoff will be made on June 20. As it pertains to the selection process, just about all of the “Big 6″ leagues have come out in favor of a conference champion-only model, with SEC commissioner Mike Slive being the biggest proponent of a field consisting of the top four teams from the regular season regardless of whether they won their conference championship or not.

    But, to reiterate Swarbrick’s words, whatever is decided will in all likelihood consist of some way to keep Notre Dame at the playoff table."

  • College football should not continue to make special rules and exceptions just for Notre Dame football, so that they can retain their "independence". It's friggin ridiculous.

    I'm sure he fully expects ND to automatically be placed in the playoffs if they win more than 8 games in a season.lol

  • I think it should be the top three conference champions no matter the conference, and then the highest ranked team. If that team is Notre Dame thats great but it would be an embarrassment to college football if it was something like "If Notre Dame finishes the season in the top 8 they make the playoffs." I know this will happen, and then you will have a one loss BCS team that is clearly better get knocked out by a two loss ND team that has beaten nobody.

    The writing is on the wall for Notre Dame. It's join a conference or GTFO. No special rules are being made for the Domers. It's not just the playoff either. Want a decent bowl? Join a conference or play in the Champs Bowl at best.

    The RCMB...is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet.

    This is why the playoff, to me, will still be illegitimate as long as every team doesn't have a chance to earn an automatic bid (like the bball tourney) and the teams are selected by an impartial committee (like the bball tourney) and not some computer formula.

    Your average UofM fan and I have something in common, neither of us went to UofM. Though we do share One major difference, I got Accepted.

  • What's sad is that they are going to join any conference besides the BiG just to spite us. Even though they don't fit in any other conference they will go for the promise of extra exceptions.

    I personally don't care. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot and I like the B1G where it is at 12. I think a bigger conference would be stupid and start to feel diluted. I always enjoyed the familiarity and camaraderie with the old B1G schools. I never really noticed until I started going to MSU and would see B1G stuff everywhere as well as when i studied abroad and was approached by somebody from almost every B1G school at some point after seeing my MSU gear. It just feels like MY conference, ya know? I don't want to add more schools that i am not as familiar with.

    That's just my personal feelings on the matter. Not like i expect such matters to be taken into account.

  • Ideally, the playoff berths would be decided by an independent committee of non-assholes that doesn't give ND a pass. Hopefully, it doesn't operate like the BCS where ND can get 9 wins over non-ranked teams and get a bid.

  • I LOVE the proposed Four Conference Champs play-off scenario. I don't want two teams from the same conference in the playoffs and I can't believe that Delany suggests a compromise. I can't stand that guy. And screw Slive, if you can't win your conference championship you shouldn't be in the play-offs.

    I'd gladly take ND into the B10 but I'm finished asking them to join. I do like the B10 with 12 teams total. I like how the divisions are set up. The only thing I'd change in football is the scheduling. Every team's last game SHOULD be within their division (ARE YOU LISTENING HOLIS & DELANY!). I love the B10 Championship game. It's better, more competitive and more exciting than the Rose Bowl in my opinion.

    If ND has to join a conference you can bet that they'll join a light-weight conference that gives them a Texas type deal where the revenue sharing is NOT equal and they've got a GREAT chance to consistently (translation: easily) win their conference championship (I.E. NOT the B10) in order to get into the play-offs.

    This. With the conference realignment and playoff changes, Notre Dame is a dinosaur. They need to get their shit together or it will be C-USA for them.
