OT: Anyone picking up Battlefield 3?

    If you play assault, and you want a gun that does a lot of damage, try the G3*, but it's fire rate is slower. A well rounded gun is the M416 and the KH2002* (keep in mind it's burst fire or single shot only though). The AN-94 is okay, but the recoil takes some serious getting used to.

    In terms of side arms, the Magnum does the most damage, but the fire rate is slow; if you love revolvers go for the Rex*; almost the same damage, but faster fire rate. The MP443 and the M9 aren't bad if you need more than 5-6 shots to get the job done. If you really want to be a jackass and overkill someone with the pistol, the G18 is the only way to go.

    For Engineer: the G36C is a good carbine, so is the M4A1 and the AKS-74U. The SCAR does the most damage, but it has the highest recoil and the smallest magazine size.

    The DAO-12 is a good shotgun, but it's primary benefit is that you can stop the reload halfway thru and continue firing if someone comes near you. That being said, reloading that shotgun from empty takes a LONG time, especially if you're on a map like Operation Metro. Try the M1014 when you get a chance. It's semi-automatic like the DAO-12, it only has 7-8 shots, but it's a hell of a lot more lethal. The Saiga is okay as well if you can get used to it's firerate.

    If I were starting again, I'd probably go with these loadouts depending on the map and the type of engagements I'd encounter:

    Assault: M416, ACOG (4x), foregrip, flash suppressor for no muzzle flash, or silencer for reduced recoil and the added bonus that you don't show up on the minimap when you shoot or kill someone. (Silencer also reduces vertical recoil on your gun, but increases bullet drop at distance due to the slower velocity rounds). Heavy Barrel is a good attachment to use if you think you're going to be shooting people at a distance; the recoil is a bit more vertically, but the rounds don't drop off as much due to the fact that they're higher velocity. If you're primarily going to be playing assault with Close Quarters engagements, use the F2000, FAMAS, or the AEK-971 if at all possible. Red dot sight or holographic sight may work just as well, it just depends on what you're comfortable with.

    Engineer: M4A1, foregrip, heavy barrel, ACOG(4x). I always run with heavy barrel as engineer, because what's the point in hiding when you have a rocket launcher to blow up things? Pistol preference for either class is relative, you just need to figure out what gun works best for you. Optional gun I'd use is the SCAR.

    Try one of the loadouts and see if any of them work for you. By the way, what rounds are you using in that shotgun? Buckshot? Flechette? Frag rounds? Slugs?

    Edit: * = co-op weapon that you can earn by playing the co-op missions.

    Thanks for the breakdown. I've really wanted to try out the KH2002 and the Rex but haven't completed any of the co-op so I haven't unlocked them yet. I'll definitely try out some of the other suggestions after work.

    Try using flechette rounds; it doesn't have the range of buckshot or slugs, but it has far better penetration than either of those rounds.

    Support: M249 has a high fire rate, but try the M240B, it's an overall better gun IMO. Your experience may vary with it though.

    Yep. Maps are HUGE. You absolutely need a vehicle to get around, otherwise it's going to take you quite sometime to get to the flags or crates. I like the expansion quite a bit to be quite honest.

  • I've had a ton of fun playing it. Huge maps...very little team play though. You feel like a badass taking down an AC130.

    If you got a good tank crew can you dominate the new maps. I hear the AC-130 is a peretty serious tank killer.

  • I have it but have not been able to play much of it. The gunship is a tank killer you just need some support to keep people off of the gunship. I have also found it is easier to rank up in jets on these maps. The AC-130 is easy to take out with a few passes and its usually 2 kills+ vehicle disable + vehicle distory= 350 points.

  • NO tanks on this ex[ansion pack. Are you kidding me. Mega fail on DICE's part. Really not a fan of the pack so far. AC-130 is pointless to use. Maybe once I am not 2 weeks behind I'll like them a bit more, but they are a little too big and not all that fun.

  • I Like armored kill. Fun with vehicles. I'm really getting into conquest domination mode for the close quarter maps. Very fast and fun. Unlocked Lsat, SCAR L AUG.all great

    Ummm yeah. There are tanks, tank destroyers, mobile rocket arty, the AC-130 gunship, and a game mode called TANK SUPERIORITY.

    Been playing it for about 2 weeks now - love it.

    the fire rate on that thing is great. my favorite for that class is still the AUG. very accurate. personal pref.

    just unlocked the TAR-21 for the engineer class (getting a kill with the EOD Bot took forever.) Not nearly as good ACR-W - my favorite for this class. the cross hair on that is tight and only gets tighter with the laser sight

    The AUG is a very good gun. I'm not a premium player but I stole it from a guy once and really liked it. I'm a bit of a klepto when it comes to stealing kits and will go entire rounds just stealing stuff instead of using my preferred guns. It's always interesting to test out other player's methods.

    I usually rock engineer. I pretty much use the M4a1, but the G36c got a pretty good boost after the new patch. The As VAL is damn good to use on smaller maps.(Grand Bazzar comes to mind).
