OT: Anyone picking up Battlefield 3?

im bummed there are no vehicles on the metro map for xbox live right now, also, sinking into the ground is annoying

There was some issue with terrain destruction they are fixing, so they had to remove it for the beta. That is what is causing all this mess.

In the end, it's a beta, not a demo. Sadly people will use it as a demo. It's really buggy, and on top of that it's a poor map. Terrible decision by EA and DICE to make this an open beta.

Especially since the alpha version of Metro had a LAV-25 (light tank) on it. That would've made a WORLD of difference. Though it should be noted that the build that the Playstation/360 got is also a minimum of a month old.

This is what a lot don't seem to realize its a beta. Their are going to be lots of issues and bugs. Thats why they release a beta.

The finished product will be much better.

Hopefully you don't take what you learn from this game and apply it to your daily routine.

  • After playing for a few hours and leveling up myself and my guns, I am actually having quite a bit of fun on this. Even though there are some major issues (hmmm falling through the map? haha)...I'm getting pretty good at it and enjoying it. They need the fix the mic issue so I can talk to my friends.

adding the heavy barrel, foregrip, and your preferred scope makes a huge difference. The base guns suck when going up against someone with those add ons.

Yeah I was basically raging last night when I was starting out. I guess after midnight is a bad time to decide to first play considering everyone in the room was level 15+. Sniping is a lot of fun in that game as well.

I am going to stay away from the beta because it's so terribly shitty it's giving me thoughts about cancelling my pre-order. i wish i could buy one game that was the bf3 solo campaign and the mw3 multi-player.

the issues shouldn't be a problem for the real game. If they are still there it would be a JOKE.

Everybody is terrible at first with the main classes. It took me a while to get used to the maps. The key is learning strategy. If you go running around looking for people to kill (like COD) you will die, and you will die a lot. Once you learn where the objectives are at, and try different strategies to get there you will get much better. In the mean time, there are others ahead of the curve.

Of course worst part is it's a bad map.

BTW...if you use recon as a sniper at the back of the map, you are pretty much worthless. K/D ratio in Battlefield is meaningless. No one cares if you have a 5:1 K/D if you are not helping your team. There are good kills and there are meaningless kills in Battlefield. Hitting some random defender while your guys are not rushing the objective is useless. They just respawn and does nothing for your team. Sitting back at the back of the map is useless. You become a worthless spawn point.

There are also worthwhile deaths. I would much rather have someone rushing the objective and getting killed while teammates rush. At least you are distracting the other team and creating a forward spawn point. Heck, I am often at the top of the leaderboard even with the same amount of kills and deaths. It's better to die without a kill while arming a MComm or providing a forward spawn point than sitting back at the end of the map and getting a few kills.

Played for a few hours last night...played the right way. It was a whole lot more fun than playing lone wolf style. First day played for 2 hours and hard a very hard time going from level 1 to 2. Last night playing "the right way" went from level 2 to 7.

  • Anyone want to play tonight?

By the way when I snipe I am ALL about the objective. I either plant the bomb and watch it or keep them from camping.

I would do just the opposite.

  • Haven't played the Battlefield series since the original Battlefield 1942. Tried out the 360 beta of BF3 last night. Did not like it at all. Maybe I'm just used to COD but everything seemed less polished and far more confusing from the controls to the on screen HUD. I was planning on getting BF3 but may pass now.

  • played last night and all my items/rank were reset? had a nice little setup and had ranked to 7. now - nada.. did this happen to anyone else?

I thought the exact same thing the first time I played the beta. Give it another chance, play the game with the intention of going for the objectives. That makes a huge difference. It's not "run and gun" and its definitely not anything COD. Once I spent the time to read up on how the game is "suppose" to be played, it became a whole lot more fun. Had a helluva time going from level 1-2 playing it like it was COD...played it like BF3 and I've gone from 2-14 in the course of like 4 hours (over the weekend).

playing last night, working as squads is a blast, we got through the subway going toward the main lobby, some ass bag is in there mowing us down as we come up the stairs, so 10 of us rush the dude, bullets flying everywhere, glass and tile breaking, very satisfying./

Last night I had a round where I was the "Assult" (medic)...was 25 - 5 k/d with 30 revives and 2 mcoms destroyed. That was a blast. Decided to give it up for the night at that, wasn't going to have a better round.

Working as squads is critical for team success. I'm a recent convert to Battlefield from COD (thanks, BLOPS) and working as a team is much more useful than with COD. right now in Beta - everyone is out for themselves, no one is spotting others or even dropping support packs. once the real ranking happens - people need to get used to doing both often if you want to win. in squad deathmatch it is essential.

spot enemies - look down sight and hit select so you or others can take them out
drop the support packs (health and ammo) for others - it doesn't hurt. only helps and you get points.

beta is still wonking - but they will fix it like all games do...

    except for BLOPS no

Yeah it is a lot of fun if you play with a decent squad (the 4 man squad not entire team). I usually play with my cousin and one of us will have health packs and the other will have ammo. We always are close to each other dropping the support packs and basically take over the entire game with just two of us. We are almost always #1 and #2 on the scoreboard just with all the squad support points. It also helps that we both usually go 30+ kills and 10 deaths.

Problem is that I'm so used to the COD style of play. With MW3 and Batman Arkham City coming out this fall, I'm just not sure if I have the amount of time it would take to invest in getting used to BF3. I'm probably not even going to prestige in Black Ops. lol
