Not true. If the item comes to $3.00 with 6% sales tax your item costs $3.20 with a .02 mark up. If we went to 10% it would be $3.30. Why would they switch to 10% and not just keep it at 6% and round up or down as normal?

You are aware that not all states have 6% sales tax. Getting all states to agree on how to compensate for the math calculations should pennies be eliminated is the roadblock.

It's called rounding. There is absolutely no need for pennies anymore. You can't even buy anything with a nickel, why do you need pennies?

i love the dollar coins. it's my favorite part of visiting Canada. Loonies and Toonies FTW!!!
That said, the only way they'll ever stick is if the feds make them by taking away the bills. not sure why they haven't done it before now. we're the only major economy that still uses bills for such a small sum.
