OT: Cars I saw in Wisconsin

  • I spent most of last week in a small town in Wisconsin. Here are a few of the older car models in use that I hadn't seen in years. Many were rusty, some had heavy plastic taped on as windows, and most were dented, but still chugging along.

    Chevy Beretta
    Ford Escort
    Ford Escort wagon
    Subaru Brat
    Chevy Lumina
    Pontiac Grand Prix
    Pontiac TransVan
    Plymouth PT Cruiser
    Oldsmobile Bravada
    Oldsmobile Silhouette
    Mazda B2000 "Sundowner"
    Chevy S-10 Blazer
    Oldsmobile Acheiva

    and of course,

    Pontiac Aztec

Where do you live that you haven't seen a grand prix in years? I personally have at least two friends who drive one. And I see a lot of these other cars as well.

  • I see Grand Prix (2008) and PT cruisers (2010) all the time.
Azteks are not exactly rare either, but they stopped making those in 2005.

Something like an Olds Achieva, or a Chevy Beretta... those are pretty rare sights anywhere now. Most have either been wrecked or crushed by now.
I used to have a neighbor that had a late 80's Cavalier Z24 convertible that was in near-mint condition. Weird car to preserve all these years.

The Pontiac GPs I saw were from the 90s--I didn't realize they were still made recently.

Right, the Achievas and Berettas I saw were definitely choice rides. One was being driven by a fat chick wearing a painter's cap.

  • I see a Chevy Chevette here in Rednecksville about once a week. Old man driving it has to be about 90 years old. He always stops about 3 full car lengths behind the car in front of him. Probably feels like he is tailgating them. Will try to get a picture next time I see him. Pretty comical to see the young folks trying to figure out what the hell kind of car it is.

When I was in high school, a late 80s/early 90s Z24 convertible was considered a pretty pimp ride. I was pretty jealous (because I was driving mid-80s Escorts)!

The Aztec is a useful vehicle...I know someone who has one to haul a hot air ballon trailer/chase vehicle/camper. It hauls the trailer nice, enough room for a crew, it gets into tight areas pretty well, and the back end camper thing is spacious and comfortable.

It's. Ugly as hell, but the people who actually bought them were incredibly loyal and satisfied with them.

There is also a building here in the older part of town with a glass front and you can see that there are three cars being stored inside the building. One of them is a Chevette. It is basically an abandoned building, with three VERY WORTHLESS cars stored in mint condition. There is dust all over them, they arent there for show. Just sitting there. Really strange.

I had the 2 door Pontiac 1994 Sunbird version of it. With the 3.1 V6...thing moved pretty good.

My dad had a Chevette in the early 80's Brown with tan naugahyde interior. AM only radio. The floor boards under the front seat rusted through. If you lifted the floormats you could watch the road. My dad said he could drop nails to stop bad guys from tailing him...he said the same about the oil that use to trail behind it.

my grandfather used to have one, back when I was in high school. He must have been about 70 something at the time. The best part for him, Im guessing, is that when he missed a turn he could just turn it around in the middle of any road, and go back and catch the road he had intended to turn on. He did that stuff all the time. Scared the hell out of me to ride with him.

And one time my brothers and I picked the car up and set it sideways across the sidewalk. Grandmaw was not real happy with us.
