I would love to see the numbers if they took out the veterans exposed to agent orange.

Veterans exposed to Agent Orange are able to get disability benifits because the link between agent orange and adult onset diabetes is 600 times that of the average non exposed person. So while obesity is an issue and probably contributes, I would like to see the numbers with Agent Orange exposed Veterans removed.

There is only like 800,000 Vietnam vets left in a country of over 300 million. It wouldn't really change much.

Agent Orange is a cop out, unions and commies sued Monsanto because they were an easy target, Monsanto does a million times more for the country than union punks and commie libs

Dont really know the point you are trying to make, but I will tell you this. My father was 101st Airbore in Vietnam.

In 1987, my father was sent home from the hospital to spend his "last Christmas" at home with his family. The numerous cancer treatments and chemo had taken a toll on him and it was to the point where the doctors were confident that he would not live another year. They gave him pills to comfort him and wanted him to go home to enjoy his last Christmas. He had doctors from the VA up to the hospital and they told my mother that while they knew cancer was caused by agent orange, they could not afford to pay benifits to anyone other than those that died. They gave my mother a card and told her to call them when he passed. As a miracle, he beat it...

My last year at MSU (2000), I got a call from my sister stating that doctors thought my fathers cancer might be back. I did the only thing I knew to deal with the feelings.. I ran over to Duffy to lift weights since I was helpless at college an unable to get home. I remember lifting and holding back tears. I got to a point where I was overwhelemd and I remember walking out into the turn arena and balling. Turns out the diagnosis endend up being diabetes and my father has been able to control it with diet and meds. He is 64 and has been doing his best to continue to fight it and avoid having to go on dialysis.

18 months ago when the VA finally recognized diabetes as being caused by agent orange, I drove him to the VA for his physical. Despite all the cases of cancer that are known to have been caused by AO, they do not award benifits to cancer patients, but they did award him partial disability due to the numbness in his feet and other aspects.

To his credit, he has missed very few home MSU football game in the last 12 years, and I was able to take him to two Final Fours (2009, 2010) and he has made 90% of the home basketball games during that time as well. I was able to take he and my mom to Maui for the Invitational 2 year ago.

So say what you will about it being a cop out, I am living it and I am fortunate as hell that I still have my father around to live it with despite the struggles he deals with every day.

    Ignorance is amazing.

Type 1 diabetes is also up 5+% annually and has nothing to do with weight/what you eat/etc.

    Yes, it is.

My 18 year-old son was diagnosed at age 4. Every checkup his endocrinologist remarks on the massive influx of new diagnoses every year.

Autoimmune issues are exacerbated by shitty diet. Juvenile diabetes and the massive increase in type 1 that comes on later in life are different animals. Lots of people with type 2 develop type 1 due to prolonged insulin resistance and the pancreas eventually says f this I'm out.

No one knows what causes Type 1 diabetes, but they have narrowed it down to the presence of a gene or gene pools as indicators. This has NOTHING to do with your diet.

Also, Type 2 diabetes does not develop into Type 1. Just because the pancreas fails to produce insulin does not mean that it is Type 1.

Eat a shitty diet with type 1 or type 2 and you end up in the same place. Type 1 onset is believed to be a function of exacerbated autoimmune cluster fuckery thanks to the the pro insulin resistance so prevalent in the western diet. This is why it is exploding. The genetic signaling that results from the pro inflammatory diets most everyone eats is at the heart of it.

A poor diet does nothing good for anyone's health and can cause various health problems, but saying that it leads to Type 1 just as accurate as saying that it leads to Rheumatoid Arthritis. It just isn't accurate and leads to many incorrect stereotypes.

Oh yeah it's ma bad genes! I live that. We all have shitty genes. They are reactive to environment. They turn on when you stuff them full of autoimmune sparking shit like excess omega 6 fatty acids and shit like gluten while exacerbating insulin resistance. This is a dumb argument because you're just gonna say I'm wrong and im gonna say you're wrong and blah blah blah. Autoimmune disorders are up across the board, not just one type of diabetes because a bunch of people humped.

Whether or not a "shitty diet" exacerbates an autoimmune disorder, doesn't change the fact it is an AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER, and in Type I's case, most likely from a genetic predisposition.

A Type II diabetic that becomes insulin dependent is still classified Type II and is dependent from a completely different biological process.

    Stop spreading misinformation.

I'm not saying its causing it I'm saying its more common because the western diet is causing more autoimmune issues. Though I see where I've made some shitty correlations, my logic is infallible.

  • People with both Type I and Type II need to take care of themselves. People with Type II, for the most part, weren't or aren't, that's how most of them got there.

People with Type I sure as hell need to take care of themselves. It's going to keep a lot of other autoimmune disorders away. People with Type I can add decades (aka live to life expectancy) onto their lives if they take care of themselves.

Bottom line is that America has an obesity epidemic, and that is directly tied to a T2D epidemic that will follow the same trend. The rest of the first world isn't far behind.

Your ignorance and persistance on the subject is astounding. Of course there are still people that think the world is flat as well so it shouldn't surprise me.

Understand that Type 1 diabetes has nothing to do with insulin resistance or the food that you eat - that is type 2. You have already proven your ignorance stating that Type 2 can develop into Type 1. That is simply not true. Type 1 is the fact that immune system has attacked the beta cells that produce insulin. The effects are similar to Type 2 in that the body does not have enough insulin, but the cause it completely different. One cure will have absolutely nothing to do with the other.

I'm sure 4 years of breast milk, fruits, vegetables, rice, beans, and meats were directly responsible for my son's diabetes. I should have gone paleo and fed him nuts and berries.

Nobody has said that. But hey, wanna make it worse, eat a bunch of saccharide riddled shit. You guys are hyper sensitive to this point and can't even rationalize. I never said diet CAUSES TYPE 1, I said it is the reason IT IS EXPLODING IN DIAGNOSIS.

but here is the deal. Imma take my healthy body, and healthy genes, and eat my low carb, gluten free, Paleo diet... And we can compare notes in about 80 years.

We are hyper sensitive to this topic because we both apparently have children that have been dx with Type 1 and constantly fight the misconception that it was the diet that caused the disease. This couldn't be further from the truth.

I have spent many hours in research updates for JDRF and while donating my time, dollars, and blood to programs like TrialNet whose goal it is to prevent and cure the disease. No offense, but I think I'm going to believe their findings instead of your babble.

I was careful about my comments until you insinuated that a poor diet also causes Type 1 and that is just false.
