OT - Which movie scenes get the tears flowing?

  • 5thhorseman said...

1.) Movie: End of It's a Wonderful Life, Christmas Eve as I am finishing up toys and drinking too much wine.

2.) TV Show that is better than a movie: when Preston "Bodie" Broadus gets killed in season 4 of The Wire.

I'm always surprised whenever someone says they got choked up when Bodie gets killed. Bodie took the first shot at Wallace!

Now, everything that happens to Randy at the end of Season 4? That is hard to watch.

  • Debbie does Dallas, circa 1979. The last scene when Debbie finally gets her cheerleader uniform after having sex with the team president. He releases on her stomach. Gets me every time. God are you all a bunch of Girly bitches.

Keeping the sunshiners in check since 2000.

  • Great thread.

Field of Dreams - "Dad...wanna have a catch?"

Old Yeller - Travis having to shoot Old Yeller, Fess Parker talking to him about it at Old Yeller's grave.

Marley & Me - When Marley has to be put down. (I have a 13 year old dog and I know this time is coming for her soon...and I dread it.)

Saving Private Ryan - Old Ryan at the cemetery...at beginning and end.

Rudy - "Who's the wild man now?" (agree with previous poster though...Fuck ND!)

Titanic - The Strausses holding each other in bed while the band is playing Nearer My God to Thee.

Band of Brothers - Capt. Winter's speech at the end..."I'm not a hero...but I served in a company of them."

    Forest Gump - Jenny dies

Shenandoah - Jimmy Stewart at his wife's grave..."If I just knew what you were thinking about all this Martha."

Stand By Me - the ending..."I never had any friends as an adult like I had when I was 12. Jesus, does anyone?" Major truth there.

The Champ - Ricky Schroeder's scene "Wake Up Champ" scene at the end. Also...scene with Ricky and Jon Voight in stands..."You know what you are? You're a pain in the ass...that's what you are."

    Bambi- Bambi's mother dies.

Dumbo - Dumbo's mom cradling him in her trunk with "Baby Mine" song playing.

It'a a Wonderful Life - "No man is a failure who has friends."

Brian's Song - Brian to Joy in the final scene "Who'da believed it Joy...who'da ever believed it."

  • The Wrestler - Ballroom/beach scene with the daughter.
    Forrest Gump - Jenny's grave.
Road To Perdition - Father/son scene at old country house (after he's been shot)

    Edit: Forgot...

Castaway - scene when he finally gets back and visits Helen Hunt at her house, and unable to have his life back.

Dude I cried when he lost Wilson. That was his only friend and I thought he was going to die at the time. Wilson, Wilson!

    This.

I don't think I cried when Wallace was shot but that was a very hard scene to watch and it shook me up for days.

I cry at Miracle when he's skating around the ice looking for his dad.

  • I really only cry at dorky things, and I'm probably the only girl I know who isn't impressed by "The Notebook."

    --When Angel dies in "Rent"
    --Dumbledore's death in Half-Blood Prince
--Dobby in Deathly Hallows part 1
--the entire Second Battle of Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows part 2, especially Lupin & Tonks and Fred
--Not a movie, but the ending of LOST

And the Toy Story 3 scene that got me was when they all started holding hands in the incinerator. I cried the first time I saw Glory and Forrest Gump, but once I knew it was coming, it didn't hit me as hard.

Surprised no one has brought up Hard Ball, when G Baby is shot and dies. That scene is absolutely brutal.

Great call. Wasn't expecting tears during that movie.

A few others have already been mentioned (Field of Dreams, Brians Song, Saving Private Ryan) but one not mentioned is The World According to Garp, when Garp is shot at the end.

  • When I was about 6 there was an episode of Highway to Heaven that involved Micheal Landon befriending a Homeless special needs teenager. Don't remember what led to the conversation but the kid explains to Micheal about his home life and how once he told his dad he loved him and then hit him which led to him running away. Make all the jokes you want but that scene haunts me to this day!

The ending of Act of Valor. I would guess a lot of people here havent seen it yet, so I wont spoil it for them, but that was one of those moments.

Yep my friends and I saw this and had to stay sitting for a few minutes during the credits to compose ourselves.

Remind yourself. Nobody built like you, you design yourself.

I bought some batteries, but they weren't included... so I had to buy them again. What do batteries run on?

The scene of them in the stands gets me just as much as the ending because they are reuniting in that one. Makes me think of my relationship with my own Dad and how much I miss him since his passing.
