Omaha Herald Suggests B1G targeting UNC & Kansas.

  • see... where i can see maryland getting out of the 50 million exit fee.... kansas BoR with the big 12 is going to be a biggie...

where to big east is collapsable.. and the ACC a bit more secure with the huge exit fee...... I don't think you are going to split anyone from the big 12 without texas going 1st..........

the next move will be the big 12's... and see who they try and snatch..

We messed up not getting Cuse adn Mizzou. No way UNC leaves the conference Duke is in. Kansas would be alright. Fun B Ball game recently

The B1G has never been interested in either Cuse or Mizzou. Markets are too small and the fit is not good. Mizzou begged to join last time we said NO!

I have to think the endgame is getting to 15 and giving ND yet one more chance before locking down at 16 (for a few years).

He's correct folks! The end game is still about ND. Either getting them to join or leaving them outside the new setup entirely.

Wouldn't be surprised if the B1G went after Ga Tech for the market and then gave ND one last chance. Once the ACC is caved in for football, how is ND going to get into the 'big game' without being in one of the "Big Four" conferences?

  • KU would balance the conference with Midwest, while getting recruiting in Kansas and reach into Oklahoma and Texas. Would bring Kansas City market into the fold better than Mizzou, which may have been their research on holding off on Mizzou. UNC brings major markets in a growing state and rich recruiting territory, also. Both bring major national followings wi them, and both have greatly renovated their football facilities. Delaney could be banking again on the promise of the programs and massive basketball exposure.

I guess I'd take those two schools. But it also wouldn't surprise me if the conference let speculation run rampant for a while just to let ND think that the conference is going to go to 16 and close the door on them ever joining. Might get them moving a bit, because we probably just started another string of dominoes falling. ND is going to be left standing alone while the B1G universities are sitting there counting their chedda.

Exactly. And if reports are true, FSU is NOT happy in the ACC and is looking around. IF they go and or the B1G takes another ACC school, the ND is screwed. They won't be getting into the natty championship playoffs anytime soon unless they are always rated #1 (fat chance). The 'Big Four' conferences are going to control the championships.

Basketball doesn't enter into these decisions at all. It's not even a blip!

It's all about football and the eyes on the TV's. Market, market, market. Mizzou was turned down before and the Kansas market is too small. Think Atlanta!

Also, Delany wasn't banking on anything. He knew the number of TV's in the Va - Washington area and the NY - NJ area (biggest market in the country). 'Promise of programs' had NOTHING to do with it.

I'm not advocating...trying to figure out reasons why KU makes sense. It balance out the eastern expansion by adding one more truly Midwest school. As at a recruiting, it adds a strong recruiting state, per capita, of kansas..and also adds recruiting exposure and reach into hotbeds, by proximity of alumni and geographically, I to Oklahoma and Texas.

I'm on a phone here, give me a break.

Culturally, it is very intertwined with Okalahoma and Texas. There are a lot of Texas transplants throughout Kansas and Kansas Ciy. Being able to tell parents that they can watch their kids play at least once every two years by going a few hours up I35 is attractive.

This is the correct answer. The ND decision making folks need "cover" to get into a real conference for football but they have to deal with a delusional fan base who would shoot whomever made the move on their own without ND be "forced". Make no mistake about it, ND is a big fish to land and with TV contracts coming up in 2017, the BIG would be demanding lots of $$$ and will get it.

Did adding Nebraska get us in Texas? Because Lincoln and Lawrence aren't that far apart, and NU has a huge presence in KC.

I'd also somewhat dispute your cultural characterization. I've never been to KC, but I know the Big Eight-SWC merger was an arranged marriage.

And if the state of KS has talent and gets you into TX recruiting, why does KU football blow?

Nothing personal, I just don't agree.

Having to pick up Rutgers, Maryland and either Kansas or UNC just to get ND makes the whole end game not worth it. ND would be a great addition to the B1G, but not if you just gobble up everything and water the whole thing down.

I'd be surprised if the BT took anyone from the west. Other than there not being a lot of value in TV dollars, (KC already has a BT presence), or recruiting, 16 teams would likely mean four-team pods. We already have a made-to-order western pod among Nebraska, iowa, Minny and wusconsin.

I think UVa is likely the next target, then MAYBE unc. If we can't get them, then GaTech. Put the three ex-ACC schools with IU, (fellow rednecks), put Purdue with o$u, PSU and Rutgers, then pair up the MI schools and the IL schools. Viola. I should be commissioner.

Bc nd will be so pissed that they can't play fball against uva or unc when they join the acc. Well worth their time.

F that pluck pitt and bc, and send the f u to nd.

Out of curiosity, I looked up the kansas football roster. They indeed have a bunch of kids from TX, (and ironically, a kid from Piscataway, NJ).

But KU can currently tell recruits' parents that they'll get to see their kids four times a year: versus texas, TCU, TxTech, and Baylor. Big Ten recruiters couldn't use that pitch.

Additionally, as bad as KU football is, they must be getting TX left-overs.

I just don't see it translating into any Texas recruiting for MSU, which is all I care about.
