Take advantage of their mega intro special - good way to stock the freezer, and the quality is not bad. But after I ran through that stock, I had no interest to continue. First, you can find bigger cuts at lower prices at the same quality. Costco has great cuts at much lower prices, or if you've never experienced it, take a trip to the Eastern Market and hit Ronnie's in the Gratiot Market - meat heaven. Second, they will hound you with calls and junk mail.

This is correct, at least as to Omaha Steaks and Costco. I have never bought steaks in Detroit.

If you win the lottery and want some outstanding steaks by mail, try Allen Brothers. I got some for my birthday a few years ago.

They're ok, but wildly overpriced compared to a good local meat market.

I have never eaten Omaha Steaks before, but I grew up on a cattle farm, and sold our home-raised beef for a while. I can say with certainty that if you can find a farmer that sells locally raised beef, it will taste better than anything you can get anywhere else.

Agreed, you're better off hitting a local meat market.

My wife got a Groupon offer from them one time and asked if we should do it. I looked at what we would get for even the discounted price and just laughed. If I wanted 4-5oz Sirloin steaks, 4-quarterpound burger patties, and a few hot dogs for $50 (Groupon price!!), I'd just assume go buy a calf, raise it, and slaughter it myself.

My mom got a bunch of these a few years ago and they were garbage. You can by better and larger cuts of meat at Sams Club.

On a side note its amazing how few people realize that its the fat in the meat that gives it great flavor.

Actually, they're seem about comparable, but of course you need to cook it at home. Buying dry aged Prime cuts of meat isn't cheap or easy.

I'll always accept it as a gift, because free meat is free meat. Plus its fun to play with the dry ice they send it in.
