UPDATE: On a scale of 1-10, how bad do you hate your job?

  • I started a new job a few months ago. I was in education, but it was drying up in the area I worked, so I decided to make the move. 95% chance the job was going to be gone next year, so I acted proactively.

    I HATE my new f*cking job. Absolutely, HATE it. Don't want to get into because I don't want the new employer to even get a whiff about it, but I'm am outta there as fast as I can. Dickhead boss who misrepresented the situation during the interview, etc, etc, etc. I'm making better scratch, better bennies. But, lads, I'm here to tell you--money ain't everything. I used to love my job--loved working with kids.

    So, on a scale of 1-10, one--being barely annoyed with your job, 10--I'm about to go Office Space on this thing, I'm about a 9.

    If you love your job, f**c off! No one axed you.

    UPDATE: Finally got a transfer. New job will be SOOOOO much better. Now, the (soon to be) old boss is begging the (soon to be) new boss to let me stay for a while because he needs me. Other cats in the department are jealous--they've wanted to do the same thing for years, and I come in, saw the deal, and said f**k this--life is too short, I'm outta here. I've gotten emails from peeps in the new department saying they can't wait until I get there.

    Moral of the story--life is too short to hate your job. Do something about it.

    any chance, without specifics, you can at least tell us what field you went into from teaching? Also, what were you teaching (high school, elementary school, phys ed?)

  • 7. It used to be mildly annoying but I looked what I did. New boss who doesn't like that I tried to get the same promotion she did and boom goes the dynamite.

  • I've never really hated a job I've had, I've never particularly liked one either. The worst part is having to get up for it IMO. Once you're there you pretty much decide what type of experience you're going to have, unless you have terrible co-workers or are doing very physically demanding work.

    Definitely picked the wrong degree program. Money is outstanding but the work is barely tolerable. Money definitely isn't everything.

  • I work for a nonprofit. I could make a lot more money but I'm honestly like a 2 on your scale. I could make quite a bit more money if I went into the private sector but I'd rather be happy and comfortable.

    Funny thing is, my girlfriend basically just told me she wanted to break up last night because my monetary future isn't brighter. Oh well. I'm a much happier person doing what I do rather than if I went to work for the man. I'm cool with my decision. Time to find someone who is cool with it too.

    We spend a lot of time at work. I refuse to have a job that I'm miserable at. It will undoubtedly follow me home and I refuse to be unhappy.

  • 0. Currently being paid to sit at home tax free....Sure the broken elbows, multiple surgeries, week in the hospital, 2 weeks in a rehab facility, and PT 3 times a week sucks...Did I mention tax free? horn

  • I'd say 3. The company is good to work for and for the most part they value their employees. The money could be better and my boss could communicate better but otherwise it's good.

  • I'd say a 3. I like the work, but I'm not all that suited to be stuck in a cubical all day every day. Work with a bunch of nice people and despite being one of the largest companies in the world and being a white collar position, we get to wear jeans every day.

    Im working
    Im bringing in a paycheck
    Most of my bills get payed every month
    Im the highest paid person in the company

    CONS:
    Im the highest paid person in the company
    I took the job because I needed work, not because it is a career I wanted
    I am at the top of the profession in the area I live, but if I drive an hour, Im near the middle of my profession. Not Cool.
    We do not do cutting edge work. Safe jobs. Boring jobs.
    Having this company on my resume is a negative in the job search world
    My boss is a severe doooshnozzle who doesnt like to do anything new or different. Not cool in this biz.

    I could go on, The company is full of clownass douchebags (maybe me included), and Im going effing broke.

    2 interviews in Nashville next week.

  • For 3 months of the year, I'd say my job is a 7 or 8. Working in public accounting, the hours are awful in January, February, and March and the pay doesn't make up for it because we don't get paid overtime (I make the same amount working 250 hours in February that I make working 160 hours in July). That being said, it's mostly that the long hours wear you down. I like what I do. I like the people I work with (for the most part). I even like most of my clients (which is good, because being an auditor at a client you don't like working with is miserable)

    April-December, it's probably a 2. I love my job and the company takes good care of us during those months to make sure we take it easy. I have plenty of vacation time and there aren't many stressful days on the job. Sure, the quarterly audits are a little tough, but compared to the year end work, it's a breeze. Honestly, the worst part about my job is something I did to myself by moving 30 miles away from the office. It takes me a good 45 minutes to get there in the morning and usually an hour to get home unless I leave before or after rush hour. That being said, I knew what I was getting into when I bought the house, so I only have myself to blame. Luckily, 90% of my clients are in the suburbs and I'm 25 minutes from them during the busiest time of the year.
