  • I am not of the opinion that UM will be a very good team this year. They should have a pretty good record because of their pathetically easy schedule, but I think they'll look a little like Nebraska in reverse: they will have a productive QB and a mediocre secondary instead of vice-versa.

Now, any of the dozens of Walgreens Discount Aisle Michigan fans on the board might be tempted to make a "HURR DURR" post regarding the fact that we lost to Nebraska, but I don't see how Michigan matches up well against us at all.

They just don't have the pieces in place on defense to shut down our offense, even if it is still shaky by October 20th (doubt it). They've got lots of new and unremarkable players on the DL. They'll be relying on William freaking Campbell to command a double team and get a push at the line of scrimmage (REALLY doubt it). They were a great blitzing D against other opponents, but couldn't really get it done against the same OL we'll have this year, and that was with their playmakers on the DL. We also managed to rush for 213 yards in the middle 30+ MPH winds, so I don't see them shutting that down either. And they don't have shutdown corners to make up for any of that.

Their offense against our defense...whatever. Could they be better? Maybe. If Armpunt Jesus suddenly develops a laser-guided cannon, they could be dangerous. The OL could be good again. Toussaint is okay. Denard lost some options at WR, though. This could go either way, but considering what last year's defense did and all the starters coming back, I'm not super worried.

  • Offensively, UM is a one trick pony. That's not to say that Robinson is their only playmaker. He's not. They're a one trick pony because their entire offense is based on deception. Zone reads, draws, designed runs, etc. are all meant to catch the defense off guard. That's great for making weak defenses look silly. It's terrible when facing a disciplined, well coached, talented defense. I think Narduzzi will be taking notes when he sees how Bama approaches defending UM's offense (not that he needs notes). You can out-tough a great defense (Wisconsin did that to us twice), but you can't trick it with misdirection all day.

    Final Countdown

  • I think their D takes a step back, no D-Line, or D-Line depth will lessen the impact of the back 7.

  • You really think they'll improve on 190 YPG passing? That'd be pretty darn impressive.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    SpartanRocky

  • I'm thinking they'll have a significantly worse record because that team can't possibly have more luck than they did in 2011. Vegas has their win total at 9.5...I think that's an easy under call. Especially when they are starting with the L against Alabama.

    Spartanram

  • If the stripes don't interfere, this is a double digit road win with over 250 yards rushing. The stat of whoever runs for more yards wins will stay true to form.

Yea, it's unlikely that they match last year's # on schedule alone.

  • We play U of M this year?

    duffy munn

  • They're terribly thin at WR, OL, TE, DL, and I wouldn't be too confident in Gardner if anything happens to Denard (No need to bring up his struggles vs MSU). They're realistically 1 to 2 iniuries away from starting true freshman at those positions.

I'm confident as long as Maxwell and Leveon stays healthy and plays to what we expect from them to beat UM handily on 10/20. There's enough playmakers on D to withhold some injuries and not expect too much of a drop off in play.

Their season is bookended by tough games against Alabama and @OSU. In the middle is us. Nobody else on their schedule is going to be a decidedly better team, and only UNL and ND are at their level. That's a recipe for 9-3 with a team that should be going 7-5.

That doesnt mean its an easy schedule? ND at night and Neb at night is tough. @purdue will be tricky too

This is IT for UofM....they likely will be beat up by Saban and they have OSU at OSU...

MSU at home with a SR QB on their side...

Althought MSU has an advantage I do not like the odds...UofM wins this puppy....

  • With you except for the easy schedule part. They go @ND, @NEB, @OSU (bowl game for the tattoo artists), Alabama "neutral". I don't see the Wolverines winning any of those. Factor in MSU and that's 7-5 right there with the chance for Iowa to make it .500.

  • Anyone else think ND plays a game against scUM like they did against us last year?

I think they're finally fed up with scUM pulling miracle wins out of their ass against them

Todd Schultz was a senior qb in 97 at home vs UM. And he was Johnny U compared to shoehorn.

  • It's going to be interesting for sure... As one of the resident Michigan fans over here, I follow this team as closley as anybody and I don't even know what to expect to be honest. Spring practices were closed to the media and team news has been really scarce again. I think this is a situation just like last year where your just going to have to wait until the fall to find out for sure and the beauty of it is we will all know right away considering who they play game 1.

Uhhhhhh...their "senior QB" has been a complete joke against our D and has been two years in a row. What's different? He has less options at WR. His OL probably won't be as good as it was last year, and we destroyed that line anyway. Their D against our O? They lost all their playmakers on the DL and are unremarkable everywhere else.

Seriously, how do you see this happening? Where is their advantage? Our defense is better than their offense and our offense will be better than their defense. Where do they pull out the win? How do they put points on the board when their most potent offense in Denard's time (2010) could only muster 17 at home?

We are better, and it's not close.

This game isn't gonna be a cakewalk...Michigan is tired of losing to us and will be reminded of it constantly, ala MSU in the 90's. Our offense will have to be balanced by then. I still think we'll be able to rush Armpunt McDreads and force him into some bad throws. Close win. Five and counting...
