Orientation tomorrow!

  • It was one of the most boring days of my life. I must have picked a bad day because it was nothing but douchebags when I went. I would suggest just trying to talk to as many girls as possible. It's always easy to make guy friends on campus but girls are a commodity.

  • The nostalgia. It's got me.

  • do they still play that goofy game where you have to guess all these crazy statistics about STDs and drug related deaths/arrests? and don't bring any booze or stuff, they WILL kick you out of school, not just orientation. if you can't go without the temptation for two days, how will you act when there's no outside pressure to stay on top of things.

oh, and meet as many people as you can. get numbers and stay in touch over summer so you have people outside your high school and dorm that you know. bring a deck of cards or something as well, that was a good way to meet people too.

  • BRING A FAN.

It was probably 95 when I had mine and trying to sleep was awful. Pretty much a huge waste of time. Just try and get through it quickly.

  • The most memorable thing I recall from mine was driving home and hearing that OJ Simpson's ex-wife had been killed and they weren't sure if he was a suspect.

Not to hijack the thread, but I was staying on campus at the exact same time. Jud Heathcote's cager camp wrapped up that day. I went home and watched the bronco chase all night.

Back to orientation...lots of good advice on here. If they still have placement tests, try your hardest.

DO NOT DRINK. Or do anything stupid. You'll have plenty of time for that. I hear they kick people out of state for infractions during AOP.

Agreed. I used to work orientations about 25 years ago. They do kick people out of school for drinking, etc. They are not kidding around. they warn you about 35 times during orientation (at least they did back in the day). Take two days off or however long it is these days. Not sure how many proud CMU grads can tell this story but I know it's happened.

  • It's been 3 years to the day since my orientation.

  • Start sounding like a college educated person, at least on the subject of orientation. After going through "Orentation", you will be "oriented", NOT "Orientated". That second one is heavily mis-used, and is NOT repeat NOT a word. It's nearly as bad as "flustrated", which is also not a word.

And the advice to beFRIEND a hot chick sounds like a great idea!

  • Orientation sucked. The polar opposite of the college experience. At orientation, they wouldn't even let us go across the streets to the tennis courts without one of the staff members.

A few years after my own orientation, I spent the summer working at the parent orientation program. That was hilarious. So many parents watching their kids leave the nest for the first time, and breaking down in tears when we would ask something like, "Do you want to tour your student's residence hall?"

My orientation was back when the drinking age was 18 (it switched back to 21 midway through my sophomore year...with NO GRANDFATHER CLAUSE frustrated ).

A few of us went out for dinner. Ended up going to Red Lobster lol because none of us knew any of the local restaurants. We had a couple drinks there and bought a pint of Jack to bring back to Wonders.

  • Hopefully it's better than orientation at TCU. Watch at your own peril.

    Play

TCU - 'Call Me Maybe' Orientation Song

TCU ambassadors (of sorts) perform their cover of "Call Me Maybe" at new student orientation. If it were me, I'd emphasize MAYBE. Also, don't get defensive. Everyone is laughable.

I would have walked out. The Fight Song to begin Orientation was AWESOME! As I felt like it was the first time I actually sang it as a true Spartan.

We got wasted (pint of 151 for myself), smoked half an ounce of the ganja, and ordered a 20" Gumby's pizza.

My orientation was awesome. I was ready to move in immediately (summer of '96).

Just don't be stupid. That applies to college in general. Don't be stupid.

  • Yeah, it was pretty boring. The 95 degree heat didn't help. No one wanted to do the 2-hour geocache, or the 2-hour neighborhood tour..
