Honestly, the only in-state school I would have attended would have been MSU. Otherwise, I would go (and did freshman year) out of state.

The only other one I'd consider is Wayne State.

I visited Hillsdale. Nice, but not exactly what I was looking for in a college. Also Wayne was my backup, but also not really what I was looking for. Once I was accepted to MSU, that was it.

I swear half my HS class went to UM Dearborn (I'm originally from Downriver) or CMU. None of my really good friends went to MSU , and only about 7 or 8 classmates went there. And some transferred out. Turned out just fine.

Northern was my other choice.

Everybody I've known who went there never came back. Just fell in love with Marquette

Had a full ride to Wayne, probably would have went there.

I chose the small school route because I got a track & field scholarship over going to MSU. I'd do it the same way again.

Set my goal of getting my MA from MSU and I did. No regrets.

There was an appeal to Michigan Tech for me, but there are no bishes up there.

My second was probably CMU. I didn't even consider GVSU about 60% of my class went there. The others went to Calvin or Hope. But other than MSU I wouldn't have stayed in state. I was looking at going out west and skiing. Utah's out of state tuition is still cheaper than MSUs in state.

I visited there and did a sit down with members of the golf team. My dad asked the guys on the team what they did for fun. This kid's response was "Well, we get together a lot and hangout and play video games. Other than that... it is a hour to U of M, a hour to Michigan State, and a hour to Western. We visit friends from high school a lot on the weekends...".

That ended it.

Yeah, I actually thought that a small school would be better for me academically (which it probably would have been), but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to go to a big school with a big time athletic department that I could cheer for.

I am really glad I ended up at MSU and wouldn't change a thing (except not be involved in long term relationships during my time at MSU---just too many hotties).

The only schools I considered were MSU and GVSU. I was all set to go to State and changed my mind. Since I grew up in Lansing, I wanted to get out of town.
