PSU Scandal: Discussion Thread - JoePa Officially Fired

  • There is a breaking and shocking story here in Pennsylvania about Jerry Sandusky, a former DC for Penn State in the Allentown Morning Call being investigated by a Grand Jury for child molestation. I can't seem to link it. www.mcall.com

  • 18 months to run a grand jury investigation and you don't have anything? Me thinks the story is sour grapes on the prosecutor's part. He knows he won't be able to bring charges and figures the story will serve its purpose, because once accused you'll never be innocent of charges like that, regardless of whether or not they were meritless.

While I agree that prosecutors often leak information to the media to convict those without sufficient evidence in the court of public opinion, I'm not sure the length of the investigation is enough to say they've got nothing on the guy. shrug

True there was a Coach in the area that I went to high school that was falsely accussed about 10-11 years ago. And he was also a teacher and even though it never went to court and he had a lot of support from students and former athletes of his, he cannot get a job teaching or coaching and he was a damn good coach. And everyone that knows the guy knows there is no way the allegations were true.

Give me a grand jury and subpoena power, and I'll find out something about anyone. What's the phrase-a grand jury would indict a ham sandwich. One accuser, one potential perp, 18 months is more than enough time. He's got nothing, but he thinks there's something, so his only recourse is to dump this into the press. Why else would it be leaked now?

I actually went to high school with the chick who prosecuted the case in this link, do you think there still aren't some people who think the parents did 'something'?

Botched rape case: Some claims tossed, but lawsuit will go to trial | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that governmental immunity protected former Oakland County prosecutors from claims of malicious prosecution in a lawsuit brought by a West Bloomfield couple over a botched rape case involving their autistic daughter. Judge John Corbett O'Meara let stand several other claims against the prosecutors that will allow the suit to go to trial.

I'm not saying I think you're wrong, I just think that jumping to conclusions based on the length of the investigation doesn't get you anywhere closer to the truth. It can take a long time to gather evidence in sexual abuse cases because victims are often traumatized and reluctant to talk about what happened. I don't necessarily think the guy is guilty, but I think it's just as dangerous to blindly side against the prosecution as it is to blindly believe their version of the events.

  • WTF? The guy sets up a charity and uses it to get to kids? Burn him.

"Some of the charges are felonies and some are misdemeanors, and attorney general Linda Kelly said the case originally focused on the claims of a young boy who reported Sandusky had indecently assaulted him and engaged in various sex acts while the boy was a guest at Sandusky's home.

According to the release, Kelly said the alleged victim encountered Sandusky through The Second Mile program when he was 11 or 12 years old. The Second Mile is a charitable organization founded by Sandusky that operates programs for young people."

He will just claim dementia....Seriously though he probably did, hell if another coach spotted an act in a football shower(as is claimed) you better believe everyone knew about it. Burn the program to the ground.

Rumor is that JoePa knew about it too...

According to the GJ, JoePa reported it to the AD when an assistant told him about witnessing Sandusky anal raping a 10 year old boy.

    Motown Spartan

  • Kelly said that seven years before that, in 2002, a graduate assistant saw Sandusky sexually assault a naked boy, estimated to be about 10 years old, in the locker room of the Lasch Football Building on campus. The grad student and his father reported what he saw to Paterno, who immediately told Curley, prosecutors said.

Curley and Schultz met with the graduate assistant about a week and a half later, Kelly said.

“Despite a powerful eyewitness statement about the sexual assault of a child, this incident was not reported to any law enforcement or child protective agency, as required by Pennsylvania law,” Kelly said. “Additionally, there is no indication that anyone from the university ever attempted to learn the identity of the child … or made any follow-up effort to obtain more information from the person who witnessed the attack.”

He already has an "out" this year since he got the most wins...He should have been gone a long time ago for not actually coaching and this cover up.
