    It was all part of his elaborate facade. Football was an easy way to reach children, because parents tend to trust coaches as men of high moral character, especially guys who coach at Penn State. Who could possibly imagine a football coach being a child molester? This is what probably led his wife to thinking everything he was doing with those kids was innocent. He is their coach, it's normal for them to spend time together. It is not uncommon for close-knit communities to trust people in the town this way, being married to him adds another dimension of trust.

    Joe Paterno is a good man, but he isn't showing his true character in this. I have no doubt that he feels for the victims, but this fight to grab the spotlight and make this about him and his legacy is disturbing. Look, you messed up and didn't call the police - the Grand Jury document is full of stories about people, both from PSU and neighboring school districts, who didn't call the police when they learned that something might be up - just come clean, apologize, and move on. It takes guts to admit error, especially with something like this. As I see it, it's the only way to protect his legacy at this point.

    JoePa is a good man? Really? He knew what was with Sandusky yet still that monster around his program WITH LITTLE BOYS for YEARS. Now when the shut has hut the dan he is still fighting for his job and legacy when he should be issuing an apology, resigning and making sure this about the monster and the little boys lives he helped to screw up forever by letting this cretin run loose.

    No irony at all. Intentional IMO. he was flaunting it. Hell when you repeatedly bring kids to a place you can easily get caught, which happened at least twice, to sexually abuse you are basically flaunting your power.

    Just imagine how many times he had probably done that before it became so normal he thought he could get away with it at work when colleagues were there. The count went to 20 within a few days.... someone somewhere else said 50. I think that's a minimum, although we will never hear from 100% of his victims, and there will be no way to know how many victims there truly are.

    I don't know. The GJ report said he was bringing one kid to his house and doing this stuff and others along on bowl trips with his family. She can't be that stupid.

  • wow... you live in 5 hrs ahead... go to sleep... and then have to spend a good 90 minutes having to read this up to catch up on what happened overnight...

    people at Penn State had a lot of my sympathy right up until the students decided to go bonkers.....

    now... none... they all need to go... JoePa.. Spanier.. McQuery.. house cleaned.... this is going to be more linked to a university than Baylor Basketball...

    Difference is, Baylor recovered by cleaning house and had a decent b-ball team within 6 years. Penn St. has not made those steps yet.

    Known victims will surpass 100. No way this started in the 90s. That is just when he got so comfortable that he practically flaunted it. I would be willing to bet he started doing that crap on campus because it gave the sick fuck some sort of extra thrill.

    How quickly did Baylor clean house? This is only less than a week in to the whole situation getting out in the public eye. As much as we all want the principals involved gone now it probably doesn't make much of a difference in recovery time for the program if it happens today or two months from now in January like I suspect it will.

    Exactly. I'd place my bets he was doing the shit well before he even started Second Mile in '77. I've always said... more than likely he was a victim himself as a child. That's usually how these things go, unfortunately.

  • Both the NY Times and the NY post report this morning that a source has said that McQueary gave JoePa all the gory details in the meeting the morning after the rape of the ten year old in 2002. The Post is also reporting that the number of victims who have come forward has reached 20.

    This storm will be a Cat 5 soon.
