PSU names McGloin #1 QB, Bolden 3rd string

Perhaps more unexpected, though, is that PSU’s No. 2 quarterback will be Paul Jones, not Rob Bolden. Bolden, despite his ongoing struggles, has shared the starting job with McGloin for the past two seasons while Jones has yet to record any passing states for the Nittany Lions (he redshirted in 2010 and sat out last season with academic issues). However, O’Brien is clearly going with potential over playing time in regards to the backup spot.

huh...that's interesting. I thought Bolden left the team this spring and was going to transfer over the summer.

    that's what i get for thinking...lol

If I remember correctly, Bolden was going to transfer but JoePa wouldn't release him, and then was fired and died (JoePa that is, not Bolden). I don't know if Bolden has broched the subject of transferring since, but he may want to start thinking about it.

There were several games left in their season when JoPa was canned last year.

It was before last season when the transfer talk started. Nonetheless, JoePa denied the request, was fired, and is now dead.

Not saying they are related, but that is, in fact, the correct order.

  • We thought Bolden was gone, but as of right now he is on campus working out with the team. It's probable that he shopped himself around and had no takers.

The order of the depth chart isn't a surprise at all. 95%+ of us were hoping for Jones, but expecting McGloin. McGloin may win us an extra game or two this year, but in the long run it may not be the best decision. But then again you don't play with the future in mind, you play for now.

  • I halfway feel bad for him, they should have let him leave.

  • Honest question, do you guys think if Bolden would've come here he would've been garbage too? Or would our staff done a lot better job with him than PSU's has?

They guy can't hit the broadside of a barn. Can any coach overcome that flaw.

He wouldn't have played yet, so it's tough to say. He certainly would have had more time to learn the system and mature instead of playing as a true freshman.

  • He's mentally destroyed at this point, so it's impossible to say imo. He never would have been a star either way. He's not fluid enough on the field, too robotic.

    PSUfan28

  • Confidence is a lot for QBs and he lost a lot that Freshman year, I think he could have done well in a better situation.

MSU really isn't that situation though, he would have gotten a chance to mayne start his SR year. He could have been a good BE/MAC QB I think.

All I know is that you can say all you want about Boisture, but he was the third choice QB in that class for MSU (after Gardner [no shot], and Bolden [daddy wants job]). Plus, Bolden would have been in a competition with Maxwell right now (which Maxwell would have hypothetically won).

At least he'd be on the roster, while MSU signed Boisture who was literally damaged goods and has retired.

Wait, you would WANT Bolden on the MSU roster, simply because he would be a back-up and not be retired like Boisture? You don't think this kid would be a cancer on this team? The best thing that happened with the QB situation was this guy playing the prima-donna and MSU walking away.

The last two years have been successful for many reasons, but one that we can't overlook is good team chemistry and unselfishness. You put this guy on the roster, he wants the starting job, he starts grumbling, and you might have some problems; remember Gholston and Hicks were good friends with this kid, and you never know how they might react to him being around.

How about two of them and letting a walk-on start..

  • Bolden or boisture.. And somehow we got the better end of the deal.

  • McGloin? Hahaha man.. that team is going to suckkk.. Of course their diet of two MAC teams and Navy/FCS team will probably help them to a 6-6 or 7-5 finish and a spot in the Pizza Bowl.

Bolden probably ends up at some ACC shit hole like Virginia or Syracuse where his father can guarantee a starting job from Day 1.

No, I'm definitely not saying that I'd rather have a cancer on the team. But I figure that, if Bolden was a cancer on our team, he probably wouldn't have made it this far. He probably would have transferred out after getting stuck as the 3rd string QB for multiple years (if he was not a team player). Penn State to me seems like a team that has been severely lacking in discipline as JoePa became more of a figure head, where no discipline was demanded.

This year, with Nichol and Cousins gone, MSU is 2 bad snaps away from having Tyler O'Connor or a walk-on playing QB. It'll be something worth keeping an eye on.

Your most likely right. We've heard rumblings of how a few of the corners weren't the most disciplined players. BOB has already kicked two players off the team and it looks like they have 0 shot of returning. It should be a tighter ship now.

    PSUfan28

  • McGloin has the respect of the team in that he worked for what he got. Going from walkon to starter takes a lot of effort and hard work. Right now the best option for BOB to win now.

As for us and Bolden, not so sure the prima dona would've been able to come out on this team. Cousins and the seniors really had ownership and if there were issues with Bolden then like someone else said he probably would've transferred by then.

On the other hand once he got in line with the leadership and the type of selfless behavior exhibited by the 104 other guys, this side of him (play me or i will pout) may never have come out. Certainly would have redshirted and had time to grow into his college career.
He would have also had a great example of team player with Keith Nichol.

Never know how it turns out but the kid will probably be best served from a personal growth perspective of staying at PSU and fighting through adversity to become the best player/person he can be or from a football only view just heading over to EMU or Grand Valley and playing.

How did McGloin's brawl with his teammates during winter workouts impact the team's respect for McGloin?

Are we playing PSU this year?

Right, they are not OSU, so we may meet them in the B1G.
