PSU's Zettel is staying put

  • Thrillho said...

Are people saying that if they're hiring people and see a PSU degree, they'll actually hold that against the candidate?

"People" = one person in this thread.

I count two. Which my non-PSU degree prepared me to do.

Which two? Apparently my non-PSU degree means I can't read because I only see one post (the second one) in this thread saying that.

  • As someone else mentioned in the Mlive comments section, perhaps he's staying put because of the big ass Penn State logo he has on his arm

Many current PSU players are probably opting to stay because it may actually increase their NFL hopes.

Reduced scholarships = fewer high-level players coming in to compete for a position in a conference that sends dozens of players to the NFL each year.

It's not a bad option for those with NFL aspirations, but for the other 90% who rely on the degree it sounds like a foolish choice.

I highly doubt a Penn State degree is "tainted". You know there are great academic institutions that don't (gasp!) have great football programs?

Your kidding right? For the next few years the first thing that comes to mind for anyone who looks at a resume with psu on it is going to be this scandle.

it's tainted...it has nothing to do with whether they have a football team. It has to do with hiring managers and recruiters flashing the word scandal as they read "Penn State" on their resume. That alone taints the resume...I'm sure many recruiters and hiring managers will know better than to assign anything to the person, but the fact that the thoughts even there taints the resume.

  • Such a bad idea. He's being guilted into it now, but he won't realize for another year or two how little exposure he's going to get, and how his potential is going to be squashed.

I'm sure a few idiots might think that, but thankfully idiots are not often in a position to hire people.

  • I don't think this scandal dimishes a Penn State degree, it's embarrassing, but no decent HR person is going to give it a thought.

  • Wasn't sure what was going to happen at Penn State. I suppose it could go two ways - rats fleeing a sinking ship, or the players galvanize with an "us versus them" mentality. I suppose the latter is playing out.

Still a little baffling. After all that transpired - the lies, the cover-up, freaking kids getting raped. Then the players find out they'll never play in a bowl game the rest of their college career. What are they going to play for? No Rose Bowl. No B1G Championship. Nothing. They're playing for nothing.

Yet these players are going to stick it out. They're showing their loyalty to a school that covered up child molestation. I am a little surprised by their loyalty to that program.

They're showing that it's too close to the season to transfer now. After the season's over things will pick up.

That's my feeling too. If I were a sophomore or a freshman that wasn't going to start, I would demand a red shirt to keep a year of eligibility. Someone with 3-4 years of eligibility is going to be way more attractive to other schools than someone with 2-3

  • "Not up to date on twitter rumors so this is what I know---Silas Redd and fam will visit USC. Family wants all info. bro, dad, silas 2 visit," Cowherd tweeted Thursday night.

Reports mixed throughout the evening on whether or not Redd had committed to USC after meeting with head coach Lane Kiffin Thursday morning, but rumors of Redd committing were quickly shot down by his father.

"According to Silas Sr., "The report that Silas is gone is misinformation!" tweeted Blue-White Illustrated's Nate Bauer, confirming that Redd had not yet committed to the Trojans.

    Nowicki Visiting Arizona State

After the Arizona Republic reported Tuesday that Penn State junior right tackle Ryan Nowicki was exploring transfer options, the Republic's Doug Haller reported Thursday night that Nowicki will visit Arizona State on Monday.

Nowicki was rumored to be looking at Illinois and Washington earlier this week, but a return to Arizona State- and his home state of Arizona- doesn't seem to be out of the realm of possibility for the 6-foot-5, 280 pound tackle.

According to Terry, the schools reaching out to him included some of the original programs that tried to recruit him at first — University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Iowa — as well as some new ones. He said the programs were very professional and showed a lot of class in the process.

I think we're missing the biggest part of this. Didn't the big fat guy running the team in ann arbor spout off yesterday at the Big ten media day that michigan isn't interested in any of the PSU players and wouldn't make any effort to go after them, because it "wasn't right"?

Valenti was blasting him for being either a naive rube or a liar. Well this quote from the kid's day proves the Chokester is the latter.

Someone send this to Valenti, STAT! Or, maybe he'll just stumble upon it here as he does his typical 5 minutes of show prep by reading message boards and rumor sites.

"Khairi Fortt is flying today to visit University of California. His father Guy said Khairi has offers from about 12 schools..." tweeted Dave Ruden of the Stamford Advocate.

Florida State made the final five for Nittany Lion tight-end Kevin Haplea when the New Jersey native ultimately picked Penn State in 2009, but now it appears Haplea is considering the Seminoles again, according to a tweet from Blue-White Illustrated's Ryan Snyder.

"Penn State TE Kevin Haplea is currently visiting Florida State," Snyder tweeted Friday morning. Tomahawk Nation, a Florida State blog, later confirmed the report.

The Observer-Reporter reported Friday evening that Penn State linebacker Mike Hull is visiting Pittsburgh's campus.

    By DUSTIN HOCKENSMITH, The Patriot-News

Penn State safety Tim Buckley, a walk-on who redshirted as a true freshman last season, became the first player to officially transfer in the wake of NCAA sanctions levied against the school's football program last week.

Buckley, a Raleigh, N.C., native, is transferring to North Carolina State.

Penn State running back Silas Redd visited southern California over the weekend and into today and is leaning toward transferring to USC, ESPN's Joe Schad reported this afternoon.

USC has been in pursuit of the junior running back since the NCAA levied heavy sanctions against the Penn State program last week. Those sanctions included the ability for current PSU players to transfer without penalty.

Schad reported that Redd is leaving Los Angeles this afternoon after spending "tons of time" with USC stars Matt Barkley and Robert Woods. He added that "Bill O'Brien will probably get one final swing at Silas Redd but it's an uphill battle."

  • Just hours after running back Silas Redd announced his intentions to transfer from the Penn State football program to USC, junior tight-end Kevin Haplea also had his name removed from Penn State's online roster, signaling his intention to transfer, as well.

Haplea was listed second on the post-spring depth chart at the "F" tight-end behind red-shirt freshman Kyle Carter. In 2011, Haplea recorded just three catches for 21 yards and a touchdown. The New Jersey native reportedly visited Florida State last week, though it is unclear if Haplea will transfer into the Seminoles program.
