Parker: 'I Love Michigan State' (No. 2 prospect overall in 2013)

  • Bailey1149 said...

I hope so, cause if he does its a recruiting violation.

I am sure he was contacted through his AAU coach, which is standard (and permitted) for this time of year. No one at UConn or Duke would be dumb enough to call the kid directly during an evaluation period.

Enough of this garbage. This should be about Jabari Parker. He'd come in with the importance that Magic and Mateen came in with..enough said. Lets make this kid a Spartan and not screw up his threads.

My bad. Jabari, if you're reading this please become a Spartan. Everyone's family here. You'll never regret it!

  • No way Jabari Parker plays for that country bumkin' in the tangerine sports jacket...

Kid has way too much going for him.

Jabari Parker (Mac Irvin Fire/2013) – Once thought to be a power forward, Parker has transformed his body and now clearly projects as an elite small forward. While a lot of his damage came in garbage time with his team down by 20, Parker made some plays in this game that scream NBA small forward. He can handle the ball coast to coast and finish at the rim (although Noel sent him away a few times) and has range on his jumper to the three point line. His most impressive offensive move was probably an 18 foot step back jumper from the left corner that would have been impressive if it had been pulled off by a guard let alone a 6’8 forward. Parker and Noel appear to be separating themselves this week as the top 2 players in the 2013 class. Jim Calhoun (Connecticut), Thad Matta (Ohio State), Jay Wright (Villanova), Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Bruce Weber (Illinois), Jim Baron (Rhode Island), Ed Cooley (Providence), Jamie Dixon (Pittsburgh), Buzz Williams (Marquette) and Tom Izzo (Michigan State) were among the head coaches courtside

  • Interesting the emphasis on "small forward." I'd think of Parker as potentially a Durant-type guy. Didn't Durant play mostly the 4 at Texas before being used as 2-guard for awhile as an NBA rookie? Now, he's settled in as a 3. That's the trajectory I'd look at.

Funny that you mention Durant. Mike DeCourcey just posted this on twitter...

"Jabari Parker, at 6-10. Catch on wing, jab-step to freeze D, step back into 3. Only thing separating him from KD: taking complete command."

    Then Later...

"Am now convinced Jabari Parker is best young player in American basketball since Greg Oden. Guys like him remind you the future is bright"

This is sort of what I was getting at in the Harris thread. He's supposedly around 6'8" now, but recent comparisons have him as a Paul Pierce / KD / Carmelo type player rather than a "power" forward.

Id still love for him to be a Spartan but he seems to fall in line as being another wing that might have the potential to go down on the blocks, but is more of a 3.

We have a shit load of wings now and multiple options in the next couple classes (G.Harris, Young, Harris) and I still feel that we really will need a big man recruit soon.

In any case you would never turn this kid down as he's almost assuredly a top 5 NBA pick according to the experts.

I think this is a pretty good evaluation.

If you look at it, our only true big men for the future are AP, Gauna and maybe Kaminski, but all three of those dudes seem more of face-up/pick and pop type players.

We still have 2 years of Nix as a banger (and I hope he steps up this year and gives us something) but beyond that it really doesn't seem like we have any fives in the mix.

I agree, you could NEVER pass up Parker if he wants to go green. Izzo will find a way to utilize him with the talent we have. If that doesn't work out, I think you really have to start looking at big men for the '13/'14 classes.

I would probably add Costello to that mix. He probably has the best back-to-the-basket game out of all of them even though he also likes to turn and face up.

    Don't forget Costello.
Parker could play the three and give us some minutes at the four situationally.

He can't attend Washington if his brother is hired as a coach. NCAA outlawed that after Larry Brown hired Ed Manning to get Danny at Kansas.

I believe that only applies to coaching positions, and not to lesser positions like video coordinator.

Not sure. Self got someone to Kansas (Chalmers, I believe) by appointing his dad Head of Basketball Ops. Ol' Roy went crazy on that one. Not sure if it's been outlawed, but that sort of thing is now very much on the NCAA radar.

I don't know how true it is, but Jabari has been reported as tall as 6'9" lately. Which is easily tall enough to play the 4.

Kevin Durant is 6'9" and 230lbs and plays SF. Height isn't the only determining factor in position. KK has recently been measured at 6'8" and like 240 and is just now getting into the role of playing a 4.

Jabari has been noted as actually losing weight recently, which has given him better athleticism and quickness which pushes him even further away from a 4.

Not saying he can't do it, but he is definitely moving more towards a wing player than a post presence. Slashing, range to 20 feet, good handle, etc.

There are just so many awesome wings out there on our team and interested in joining, just wish we could get a beefy 6'10"+ dude to bang down low.

Maybe Jabari grows a couple inches and becomes a crafty 4. Ill take him either way.

This was discussed on the Illiniboard and the belief was that they could do it. The fact that his brother is already associated with the school makes me think they could do it legally as well.
