  • When they ask you what you want for something don't say, ah $150-200 lol

I know it's set up, but is it set up to be that stupid, and if the script says that, wouldn't you say I'll look like an idiot if I say that?shrug

  • That show is shit. Every person annoys me, especially the fat son and the fat son's friend. I wanna punch them in their fat ugly faces.

What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...

  • "So your pistol from 1802 is probably worth about 5,000.00 at auction, we'll give ya 200 bucks for it"
"Well, I wanted a little more for it. Can you do 250 ?"

  • What's interesting is some of the history of the items that come in. Agreed that the cast of characters are borderline idiots and cruel to each other. hammer

Notice how the "normal" employees seldom make it on camera? shrug

  • I don't know why, but I am really drawn to the show. Last night I stayed up an extra hour because I had it on and couldn't fall asleep until the two episodes were over. It does bother me how stupid people are when negotiating, but it's not like I really care about them. I agree that the history behind the items is what is most entertaining, to me.

    Agree...

And you freakin' Dbags... if you want any sort of value out of what you are selling, Don't go to a pawn shop.

Now if your bookie is going to break your legs if you don't scrape up a grand... then go see them with mom's necklace. Otherwise, you are probably better off selling on ebay.

  • I find the little snippets funny where Rick explains the obvious. "Abe Lincoln was the 16th President, an American Icon, & regarded as one of our greatest leaders. I really want this artifact." Uh, thanks for the insight, Rick.

  • Even better are the idiots that are affected by the values they plac eon things. The Indian mini bike for $5000+ was insane, I've seen them for under $1,000 all over the US. The Rokon Trailbreaker was another that was WAAAY over valued. We collect and move bikes for other collectors, after those 2 bikes were on the show similar bikes rocketed in value for a while until people woke up.

  • And what was with the fucktard with the can of pearls? At one point the dude bought it (thinking it was worth something), held onto it for 10 years... And thought he got value when Rick offered 10 bucks just to see what was in it... THAT dude was jonsing for a smoke HARD.

  • I like the show too. Mainly for the history lessons that go with some of the items.

As far as the pricing/negotiations goes, yes it has to be mostly staged but it's a pawn shop. If you expect a dutch auction type bidding and anything close to retail pricing, you're in the wrong place.

  • I just can't believe theres that many people who don't have an internet connection and an eBay account. You want top dollar for something you don't know the value of? Ebay. You want a fraction of that? Go to a pawn shop and look like a moron.

  • I like the show and the items but when the guys are in the Ads for the show are in leather trench coats and sunglasses trying to look like they are in the Matrix I just laugh, bunch of fat asses that are trying to look tough

matrix ... Isn't a satiric tip of the cap to Entourage?

I enjoy the show, there is certainly some cool stuff that gets brought in. The value of some stuff really surprises me. They bought a homemade bowling bowl shooting mortar for instance for $6500. Wut?

Hahaha this post made me laugh cause it's true. You can tell he is reading off a teleprompter or something, too.

    You forgot to add:

"I really want this artifact, if I can get it at the right price."

  • "wow, that is a really interesting story and this looks really old and i would love to have it in my shop but i have no idea what it is worth. Problem is this type of item is faked a lot so before we even begin to talk about a piece... I know a guy that knows all about this kind of stuff, let me get him down here so we know exactly what we are looking at the then we'll go from there. Sound good (sheepish grin) ?"

  • I liked the first season of this show for the some of the historical things that were brought in, as many have said. But the History channel ruined this show as the Discovery channel ruined American Chopper, and that is by scripting everything and having them read off the prompters, and the little side stunts, etc.

And don't get me started on Chumlee and "Big (fat ass) Hoss". What two ginormous wastes of space and effing morons. It depresses me that Chum has a following bc it really makes me wonder about the intelligence level of some people in this country.

  • I much prefer Oddities on the Science Channel. And, for some reason, I have the hots for Evan. I'm willing to bet she's a freak in the sack.

  • I actually like the history of the items but the scripts and plot are the same every single time. I pretty much figured out that whatever the expert says it's worth, Rick will pay up to half of that if he wants it.

What I want to know is what do the experts get paid because I swear they're in there like 50 times a week. And if you knew all these guys wouldn't you be like, come in here, look at the stuff. If it's real, tell me approximately 60% of what's it's actually worth and I'll get it for 50% of that. Seems like a racket.

That is on History occasionally too...

I caught it once or twice... some f'ked individuals on that show.

  • They're trying to be OCC of the Pawn Shops.. Chumlee is Mike, The old man is Sr and Rick is Jr. I guess Big Hoss is Rick of OCC? Interesting shows until you figure out the scripting and when you know what's next it's time to move on.

OCC is close to foreclosure, so with the Pawn Shop be close behind?

    Shut up and listen already.....

  • The thing that bothers me about this show is they never show anybody ever coming in and buying the crap they just bought.

I've got a few pinball machines. I think I have a good idea what certain ones are worth what. They've bought them at insane prices and had them "restored" then say they are worth more than some of the true collector games.

BTW, I'm not convinced the OCC story these days is anything more than scripted drama. Would anybody watch what's left of those idiots unless they were a complete train wreck?

+1, I like the show but it's annoying when people get a super low offer on their stuff and then are pissed about it, I don't see why all these people don't just go on ebay and make at least 3x the money on their items.
