Penn State fans... Smh

Whatever you feelings on the PSU mess, you should read this from a Penn State prof.

    http://onwardstate.com/community/one-faculty-members-position-on-the-current-state-of-affairs/

Also, the Freeh report only addressed the stuff at PSU and not at TMS. There are some very disturbing reports coming out about TMS pimping boys out statewide (including lots of political folks from all over Pa - including the current Gov who covered things up when he was AG). Also, questions about Spanier's time at Neb and his friends there. Freeh didn't go there because it would be VERY damning (and it was outside the range of his report).

After reading that it is perfectly clear. Even their professors dont get it. The criticism is not that they put football ahead of academics. No one is saying they dont graduate athletes.

They had a coach on the team raping kids. Their coach and other admins knew and covered it up. That is the issue.

Penn State, their students and profs should just STFU and take their slice of humble pie that they are going to have a bad football team for 10yrs. Just fade away and 5yrs from now most will have forgotten the gory details. Keep this up and it just gets worse.

Let's say what happened at Ped State happened at MSU.

Would our fan base rally around the program and University and defend it at all costs? Some would, but I think the majority would take their lumps and live with the fact this happened at our school, and was a black eye, and we deserved our punishment.

I would have no issue with PSU fans coming onto this board and telling us we deserved the death penalty if this went on at MSU. I wouldn't want them banned either. You lie in the bed you make, and if the University screws up, the fan base goes down with the ship.

Problem is you get the opposite from Ped State. I posted on their board they deserved the death penalty, I was blacklisted immediately. They are so thin skinned and above reproach. Despite the heinous acts that went on there for decades, they hold onto the mentality they are better than everyone else. The use of the word Cult applies in this case.

These Ped State fans live on another planet.

Really? You posted on the PSU board that they deserved the death penalty, was blacklisted, and it's their fault? It's called trolling. This has a surprise factor of zero.

A lot of Penn State fans are completely delusional about the situation. But a lot of fans from MSU and other schools act like such jerks towards them that you wonder why they develop the "Penn State against the world" attitude. I don't see why there's anything wrong with them supporting the 2012 football team, which is totally removed from the situation.

I know I'll get downvoted for this, but it seems like some posters here want all Penn State fans, students, alumni, faculty, and staff to jump off a cliff. The stuff going on there was sick and disturbing, but it doesn't give us the right to take the low road.

I don't think anyone has a problem with PSU supporting their football team. I think most of us just see way too much of a "PSU is the victim" attitude.

PSU created the "Penn State against the world" attitude themselves. I have no sympathy for them.

Exactly PSU is acting like they are the victim of an unconstitutional act by the NCAA. They honestly believe they should not be receiving any sanctions.

Agree the 2012 football team had nothing to do with it. Support for them is not the issue.

You know, I was pretty much with the guy until this line:

"The damage [current PSU President Erickson] has done, in my humble opinion, is far worse than anything Graham Spanier ever came close to doing."

Sorry, but I, for one, don't believe that sullying the reputation of a university (even if egregiously done) is worse than protecting a child molester. But hey, that's just me. shrug

Lol, my thoughts exactly. I was going to side with him, if only because of sufficiently vague statements like "they put football ahead of their mission as an academic institution" instead of "they put football ahead of protecting children from rape," but yeah, he got pretty fucked up by the end of it. What an asshole.
