I can't believe I had to join this board to post about this. Follow the link or read the quotation below. It shows clearly that EJ's dad was talking about them holding a spot for EJ before either Gedeon or McCray committed. Some simple google searching will find plenty of other sources to confirm. I imagine his Dad just compressed the timeline of the story to tell it more quickly. Oh, and I have two Michigan degrees so no need for the "walvie" comments.

"E.J.'s father told Wiltfong that the coaches have made it clear to him that there will be a scholarship available to the potential five-star prospect; if the Wolverines lock up two linebackers in the near future, they'll likely reserve that last spot for Levenberry."

Thank god Mgoblog has arrived to clear all of this up for us.

E.J. Levenberry's father has been quoted numerous times saying he liked Michigan mostly because of the high character of the coaching staff and his son even went as far as to say Hoke reminded him of his dad. Never throughout the entire process did they have anything bad to say about how UM handled his recruitment. The dad's quote about how they told him there were 2 spots available except for his son has been brought up a bunch of times, but did the dad actually have a problem with it? If he did, then it completely contradicts anything he's ever said publicly about Hoke or the rest of the staff.

E.J. wasn't turned off by a "hard sell" or anything like that. The fact that they had his major in criminal justice with his dad being in law enforcement and academics being so important to them played a major role in him picking FSU. They had also been in on him before we were and he gets to stay closer to home.

The only ones who have such a huge problem with these so called tactics would be you guys. Whatever he's doing is clearly working as we have 17 commits in May who all love Michigain and couldn't be happier with their commitments.

.....Until they decommit or have a better player recruited in their stead.

This is part of the reason Shane Jones didn't choose UM. He loved MSU more to be sure, but he knew how unscrupulous Hoke is and didn't want an already committed player losing their spot. Mgoblog missed the story on that one, not surprising.

They were trying to create some urgency, but that's not what I would call a hard sell. The hard Sell would be if they told him, "Sorry, we're full" after they had taken two players.

That is after the fact.. saying you're full is no longer a sell. The result has nothing to do with the approach.

  • This whole thread is ridiculous!

  • The ummies flocked to this thread like May Flies to a bug zapper.

More ummies have posted here and I hope they notice their posts haven't been vaporized and they haven't been banned.

Had I posted this on one of their M/blue boards I suspect this thread would have been gone in minutes, perhaps seconds. Have to chuckle about a fan base that can't admit they recruit like many other schools.

In this case Hoke and company played the pressure card and it didn't work so they back tracked.

  • I haven't had time to read all of the comments but this happens at almost all schools, including MSU.

I know that in the past Coach D has told recruits that it comes down to the first person to commit at whatever position they offer. If they take visits to other schools after they commit then that is not seen as a true commitment, and recruitment is open for that position again.

The funniest part is that they're using MGoBlog as a source to bolster their BS.

This a surprise? I've long said that M is certainly Leaders and Best when it comes to spin and getting the overwhelming majority of their fanbase regurgitating said spin without hesitation or variation.

Obviously, Walverines by nature are predisposed to be lemmings, so it's not exactly moving a mountain to make that happen, more like scuttling a northern ant hill.

Some Michigan fans are admitting that Michigan recruits like other schools. However, people are making it sound as if Hoke is the most dishonest coach in the country.

Stanford, Boise, and TCU have been some of the most followed teams/stories for the past few seasons, I'm not sure you can label these teams "Irrelevant" anymore. I won't comment on Michigan due to my conflict of interestbiggrin

  • With some of you--I'm assuming/hoping the non-MSU grads--I feel like I'm arguing with a 4-year old. There are some bright folks on here capable of having rational arguments, but there are also some real idiots. This is certainly true at mgoblog, but the ratio is much much better.
