Looking at getting my kids a baskeball hoop for the driveway. Starting to price out the in-ground ones and after install we're in the $1000 range. Anybody have experience with Pro Shot or Goalrilla (Dick's sporting goods) in ground systems?
It seems the portable ones are $500 for good quality/review online. The expensive "portable" ones aren't very portable. Looking around the neighborhood some people have bad and good quality in ground systems and the same for the portable ones..
Leaning towards the portable stritcly because of the cost but want it to last for 10 + plus years

My dad put an in ground hoop in for me and I can honestly say that it was the one thing they bought me that I can assure you they got their moneys worth.
I cant even imagine how many hours I spent in that driveway playing basketball. Even when I came home from college in the summers, I would wake up and shoot until I had to go to work. He filled the pole with concrete about 3 feet up, so the thing was very sturdy. It lasted 20 years until he finally wanted room for his boat and travel trailer and cut the thing off at the ground, but I cant imagine anything they ever bought me that I got more use out of and it was always ready when I needed it, no moving required.

If you have the space, go in-ground. I live across the country from my parents and I still have my friends over to shoot around and drink beers whenever I go home. It's probably 10-12 years old and still going strong. Only thing we ever had to replace was the rim becuase my jackass friend lowered the hoop and bent it when he was literally doing pull-ups on the rim.

Spend the extra money, and get an in-ground job. Gorilla, Bison, etc. I had a Gorilla at my home in Tulsa, best $2K I ever spent. 72" backboard, 6x8 post
Also, don't go with the lower end backboard material. The cheaper plexiglass. When I bought, you had 3 choices - a thinner plexiglass, a more firm acrylic, and glass. I went with glass.
If you ever need to move it for any reason, the mount bolts onto anchors.

Shit. I was thinking of putting in an adjustable one for my oldest son, who loves shooting baskets. But that's more than I expected.
Portable Basketball system vs. In ground
