It's more requiring VIP in order to be able to post. The thing about staff was potentially making their posts only readable with VIP access. Everyone would still be able to read all the other posts on whatever board.

I don't think you see what I'm saying.
There are random posters who are making their posts unreadable to commoners.

Yeah. I know. I believe the goal is to take that ability away from everyone but staff. We're still going to be settling in here for a little while.

There was a great forums on the other side that offered many of us to look in and gather information. When we had questions to ask, we had an opportunity to post those in a legitimate way for the board to offer answers and links to those answers.

What I am hearing is that there will no longer be an opportunity for that unless one subscribes. Why does this have to be?

If there is copyrighted information offered, then leave that to those that subscribe of course. This was the manner of what was previously offered. If there is something that is common knowledge or is from alternative sites, then let it be posted for all to share and enjoy.

Or is that forbidden here? And if so, then that is a shame.

There needs to be a medium discovered somewhere is all I am saying. People need to be able to ask and find answers without having to dole out money to find answers that might be tilted in one way or another.

Mind this, and I hope I'll not be banned for asking a simple question on the new board with new sponsors, but will we be able to see input from Trieu (sp?) or any of the other quality contributors like "Coached by Duffy"? Would we ever be able to ask them questions to inquire more of what they shared, or is that an infamnia now?

Sony, and I don't mean to stir the pot too much AA. I suspect how much the the previous board might have vexed you. But there needs to be something for the layman to find info and be able to ask legitimate questions... and without it becoming the mess that the other side happened to be at times.

    Again, with respect....

    Arch.

We'll take all criticisms into advisement ;)

I'm 99% sure that Allen Trieu from Scout.com will not be coming over to a competitor's site to post information anyway. lol

Was the tRCMB-ESPN alliance that nonthreatening?

  • I must say my favorite part about tRCMB, besides the occasional hilarious thread, was the recruiting forums. They served very well as great aggregators of information and then yes the occasional star bashing and rumored speculations.

We didn't have a recruiting service really behind us then. 24/7, Scout, and Rivals are being set up as direct competitors in a niche market while I think most people would agree that ESPN was not.

ESPN has a ton more recruiting info than 24/7.

    Appreciatd, but still....cry

And if I might add something unrelated as an improvement to the new board....

Finding the smilies is a new pain in the arse. Is there a way these can be ordered in the way they were before? And with some highlighted names under them as before so we are sure of what we are posting?

Just a constructive something to offer as a possible improvement instead of having to wander through a page of smilies looking without knowing. There's gotta be a lot of guys out there that are not going to be everyday posters that might like some familiarity with something.

Just saying and thanks for listening.

I wish I could! We have absolutely zilch to do with the site design. All we can do is make suggestions for improvements.

I bet we could ask them. Seeing as the guys who started Rivals are running this place, they've got an idea of what they are doing.

  • 247 doesn't have videos of their #1 rated recruit. I think it is going to be a while before they compare to scout or rivals... that said, I should have waited on subscribing to this site.

VIP-ing posts is really annoying, I have no problem with people doing it on the private boards, but the public boards should be that: Public.

Well the Press Box forum is where all the writers will be hanging out. It's not just recruiting. It's all MSU articles. The Duff and the Jack are for recruiting stuff. The thought was to limit the junk there since there's a lot of it.

Yeah, it might limit some of the junk, but a lot of real news on tDuff and tBres comes from people who aren't even regular posters, let alone donars (i.e. Jalen Schlacter's mom) and I don't like the idea of losing that possibility.

  • AA Spartan, agree with Archangel regarding recruiting info not being able to be posted unless VIP member. Living here in Atlanta, recently I have tried to provide info regarding links & articles regarding the GA HS Playoff games with Andre Sims. Others in PA have provided info regarding Paul Lang. Do you not want the additional input that was being provided, unless we pay to join?

I initially supported the move to 247, even though it's nowhere near complete. The change to the recruiting boards has me seriously questioning whether this is a good thing. I was a walk-on for a very long time, and highly appreciated the fact that I could get detailed recruiting info from a community source without having to pay for a spartanmag or scout.com subscription. Through this move you've alienated some of the best posters, including Coached by Duffy and Allen Trieu who both provided more useful information than the paid staff writers on a daily basis. Sacrificing those relationships for what is currently a laughable (at best) recruiting service was a seriously bad move.

These fucking clowns don't even have 40-yard dash times on their profiles, apparently missed the memo that Justice Hayes and DaVaris Daniels decommitted from ND, and the memo that Dee Hart decommitted from scUM, and seem to be ranking players on the basis of what fanbases are switching to their website (only two rated players this morning, now more than half the class is rated).

  • I realize that I only had about 350 posts on the old tRCMB (old name of umshoveit) but I'd be willing to bet that well over half of them were on tDuff. If I found hometown newspaper articles or links to stories on players I would share them here. Not being able to do that anymore or even moreso, others not being able to do that as well would really be a shame. I frankly think it would leave a void in a very popular market. Part of what made the rcmb so great is precisely that it wasn't spartan mag or the bunker. Protected content is one thing but having a proverbial, "one stop shop" of free aggregated recruiting stories saved a lot of hours surfing the internet.

Thanks for being a sounding board.

(sorry for all the typos, waiting for tWife to have this damn baby already. She's been in labor since 8 last night)
