Q&A with Cass Tech HC on Freep- 1 ? about MSU...

  • here's part of the transcript that talks about MSU...

We're getting flooded with questions about Michigan State. Here are two of the representative ones.
by James Jahnke 9:00 AM yesterday

MSU fans young and old would love to see more CassTech players on the team. How can coaches develop better relations with you and your staff?
    by NoMSULove? 9:00 AM yesterday

Coach, why are there no Technicians at or coming to Michigan State? Many MSU fans believe that you have built a blue wall around your football program. Meaning, you actively steer your best players towards Ann Arbor and/or away from MSU. I know you played for Michigan and all, but Coach Dantonio knows DBs, and is sending his kids to the NFL. The lack of marquee players from Cass Tech on the MSU football team over the years certainly doesn't dissuade the conspiracy theorists. Can you please speak to that point?

CT Thomas Wilcher: Coach Dantonio and I have been working on that situation for the past few years. We will soon land a kid at MSU.

  • Generic and sanitized response. The dude is Kurt Keener but on the gridiron instead of hardwood. Without completely overwhelming talent @Cass he's lost. The next recruit of his to have any impact other than negative at Michigan will be his first.

    Translation:

We continue to keep them at arm's length. When we have a player with solely MAC offers, we will make sure that he visits MSU and sees the opportunities there for him.

  • SCum can have those bums. Cass Tech is known for sending SCum bad players. I will keep supporting that cause.

right Keep your frickin' players in the scUM pipeline. No 11-1 this season, big boy, and your blue slip is showing.

LOL!!! If Michigan with retooled and thin lines on both sides of the ball goes 11-1, I'll annoint their coaches the greatest group since Vince Lombardi. It's not going to happen, they have weak lines and are 1 injury (or suspension) away from disaster on both of them.

  • The last significant Cass Tech player to make it to the NFL was 20m years ago, correct? Also, area ballers playing against them ALL say they are thugs and quit because they are out of shape. If they don't want to come to MSU, it is THEIR loss, and Wilcher should be fired; part of his job is to send kids on for good education, positive mentoring, and potential grooming for an NFL roster.

Gholston and Barksdale within the last 10 years.

  • This coach is nothing more than a glorified AAU basketball coach. If he has his kid's best interest in mind, he wouldn't steer them to one school only. If he changes his ways with this (not just regarding MSU), maybe I'll change my mind. But history shows he's okay with losing to teams with less talent and setting kids up to be busts at the college level. Somebody post a list of 4 and 5 star kids he's had that haven't panned out.

Because he can't coach and the lack of success his players have at the next level tells you something about how he's preparing them. That's irrelevant to this discussion. You can say John Herrington is a mediocre coach if your standard is NFL stardom.

That is probably two more than the previous 20 year period. Can they win another state title?

  • You guys are seriously knocking a high school coach because his players don't do well in the NFL? facepalm_msu You can dig him all you want for his players not doing well in college, but the NFL is a whole different game. That's like blaming a middle school coach for not producing enough college basketball players.

The only other in-state schools that seem to produce football players at the rate CT does is Rice, OLSM, Renaissance, and Harrison. Luckily for us, two of those schools are pipelines for us.

Who are the PSL guys with long active NFL careers? Marion Barber, Jr. and Jerome Bettis are old menlol

The only guy I'm coming up with off the top of my head is Bart Scott. If Braylon were 3 or 4 years older he likely would have been a PSL product.
