If I purchase an external hard drive that is USB 3.0 I assume it will still be compatible with my USB 2.0 laptop - is this true. What is the difference between 2.0 and 3.0 other that speed?
Thanks for any info anyone can provide.
You'll have to go pick up a USB -1.0 to use with the 3.0 and you'll be fine. Or a refractor cable.
It was just a mistake;
I didn't mean to let them take away my soul.
Am I too old?
Is it too late?
Yes it is backward compatible and speed is the difference.
FYI: Not sure if you have a Mac but I had issues with a USB 3.0 drive on my Macbook Pro. Not sure if it was just that particular Seagate drive but I haven't had an issue with any 2.0 drives or other brands.
Also, I don't think USB 3.0 is any faster if your computer has 2.0 hardware. It is backward compatible, however.
It also might not be any faster regardless. Some write speeds are slower than 2.0 transfer speeds.
