After the 1982 strike "All Star" game in the LA Colisium I got a chance to meet and hang with Bubba for part of an evening, Soft spoken, funny, Great Spartan

Tragic. He was too young.
Charlie Thornhill, George Webster, and now Charles Smith. Three men who died much to early.
Duffy's assembling a heck of a team in heaven,
Thanks for all the memories of terrorizing the opposition during Saturday's in the fall while at MSU, and on Sunday's in the NFL.

Devastating news and loss for the Spartan Nation and another one of my heroes from those great 1965-66 teams gone much too soon. My deepest heartfelt condolences to his family. RIP Bubba...we're gonna miss you and you will never be forgotten.

I heard the sad news on KYW radio (Philly) on my way to the office this morning. I had to pull over for a moment.
I was fortunate to be at MSU for Bubba's years. I had never seen anyone that big. Aside from his ability to throw linemen around like rag dolls, my favorite memory was to see him driving around EL in that damn white '67 Buick Riviera. When he wasn't driving it, it was in the EL Police station impound!
Rest in peace, big man. I'm sure Duffy has a locker up there ready for you.

My dad is gonna be sad about this one. He was at MSU when Bubba (and so many other Spartan greats) were playing. He used to tell us stories about the games. "KILL, BUBBA, KILL!!!"

My first 2 years at State were '65 & '66, and so I got to see Bubba play for both of those years. He was as dominant a player as I've ever seen in college, and made those initial years of being a Spartan truly memorable. After he left State for the pros, he came back to campus regularly in the off seasons. He was a big pinball fan, and he used to hang out at the old Varsity a lot. Played many games with him, and he was always soft-spoken and down-to-earth, despite his celebrity. He was the only person I ever saw who used his index fingers on the flippers of the games. Shared more than one of the Varsity's foot-long coney dogs with him. This is a sad day for me personally, and for Spartan Nation. RIP Bubba.

95 patch on the jerzeys or 95 sticker on the helmets, all season.
I hope they let Will Gholston wear the #95 in the home opener. It would be neat to see that. They look so simular.
