Raburn Optioned To Toledo

  • Spartan8Ball said...

It's going to be hard to sit Dirks. His bat is hot and the two slot in the batting order is important. Delmon is starting to show signs of life as the DH. Leyland has a man crush on Don Kelly because he can play numerous positions. It's definitely a tough call. I think Berry will be back in Toledo. Numbers game.

Dirks can't sit, except for the odd day off.

And now Worth and Santiago are splitting the time at 2B.

Kelly is out of options, so he'd have to clear waivers to make it to Toledo like Inge did last year.

Either Berry (I doubt it) or whoever gets called up tomorrow. If Jackson spends the weekend rehabbing in Toledo, that puts him out until Monday at the earliest.

    Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.

    Sooooo?

Basically unheard of for a prospect to jump from A ball to the bigs. Just doesn't happen, and there's no place for him to play on this team.

Castellanos jumping from A ball pitching to MLB pitching would not be a good idea.

    Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.

  • bananabananabanana Now can they option Lloyd McClendon to Toledo and recall a hitting coach?

  • My guesses:
    1. Eldred to provide another bat off the bench and maybe sit Dirks/Boesch vs. LHP
    2. Justin Henry
    3. Eric Patterson
    4. Putkonen
    5. Wilk
    6. Miner

The Tigers were so desperate to send Raburn down, they replaced him with a bag of sunflower seeds.

  • If Leyland says it won't be 2b, Eldred makes most sense...but I still wouldn't be shocked if they brought a lefty with them to NY. They had to go into the bullpen today and will definitely go into it tomorrow with Smyly on the mound.

So Raburn is sent down, leaving Worth & Santiago at 2nd. It's like a poker hand w/3 Jokers. You lose, no matter what.

    Good list.

I'll be honest though, with Smyly, Scherzer and Porcello coming up over the next 3 days I wouldn't be shocked if they call up another arm just in case.

Why a LHP? Coke didn't pitch and Below only threw 7 pitches today.

Based on what I have seen out of this front office, I predict Crosby will make his MLB debut out of the bullpen against NY.

Might need to showcase someone to get a servicable 2B.

No doubt. They may go to 13 for a few days ... through the weekend at most.

Perhaps. He has been pitching well lately. Not sure that I like pitching him out of the pen though.

Red Sox and Yankees are both lefthand heavy lineups. I expect us to have to throw Below or Coke tomorrow.

  • And I think Marte is too valuable for them to lean heavily on this early coming off an injury.

Yankees are hitting .275 vs. LHP and .263 vs. RHP.

One of them may pitch tomorrow, but they likely won't follow Smyly. You usually want to mix it up LH/RH/LH ...

  • But I'm going to move the pitchers up above Patterson/Henry on my guess list.

    1. Eldred
    2. Putkonen
    3. Wilk
    4. Crosby
The following have a few days to audition for a call-up to help in the INF:
    5. Patterson
    6. Henry
    7. Romero

Just realized Putkonen just got sent down a few days ago when Marte came back. He's not eligible to be recalled yet is he?

Good catch ... he was sent down on the 25th. I think you had to wait a week unless you put another pitcher on the DL. Is it a week?

    and +1

  • Bullpen - has been fine and with Villarreal and Marte up now I don't think we need another arm there. The Yankees love to load up on left handed bats so maybe a left handed reliever. Highly doubt they would throw Crosby into the pen with his health history and work with control. Wilk is garbage, Oliver can't repeat his mechanics and never may fix it, Downs may be an interesting option but isn't much of a prospect.

Lineup - if it's not a 2B that almost limits things to Eldred or Matt Young. Eldred will never hit MLB but it's hard to ignore what he's continued to do in Toledo. Young has a nice OBP but in MLB you need to be able to take the bat off your shoulder as well.

If some of you like to talk about AAAA players like Patterson, why are you ignoring what Lennerton is doing in Erie?
