Was he DFA when he was sent down the first time and taken off the 40 man? If that is the case you are correct.

no, he used his last option to prevent him from going to waivers, I am not sure where you are coming from here
you can't just freely shuffle people back and forth all you want

If they have an option to start the year you can. You just have to wait at least 10 days after demoting to bring them back up. You don't burn an option every time you send someone down during the same year.

Dirks injury isn't any quick fix. Boesch is on a nice hitting streak but he's stll a butcher in the field. Young is beginning to hit towards his lifetime average but like Boesch you can't put up with his defense and poor hitting.
There is a reason Berry has languished in the minors but maybe he's found a home in the Tiger's slow roster at least for this year. Berry, Jackson, Dirks (if he's healthy) and maybe Worth are the players who can consistently score from 2nd on a single and from 1st on a double.
Young is on a one year contact and probably not in a trade unless the Tigers pick up the rest of his salary. Quinton is a target of several teams. Like others I would not be surprised to see Jacob Turner with some other players packaged. Others think the Tigers may go after Ryan Dempster who is 35 and is on the last year of his contract but its a steep $14M so the Tigers would be responsible for the $8.6M remaining. Garza is eligible for arbitration and at 28 is going to want a long term deal.
I woudn't be shocked to see one of the Cubs in a Tiger uniform. Their season is done and Epstein is in build for next year mode.

He can't be sent back down without clearing waivers. Most likely a DFA awaits.

2009 - .933 after All Star game (this year he might have been 3rd behind Miggs and Maggs)
2010 - .900 after All Star game
2011 - .967 after All Star game
Why would you not keep him around for another few weeks and see if he turns it around like he has done each year.

I just hope Leyland doesn't use this as his excuse to play him every day again (or start batting him the 2 spot where Boesch seems to be getting his swing back a little)
