  • I get that it was much worse than what Weber did but come on......former Pittsburgh player gets fucked = games suspended, Redwing player doesn't get hurt yet it was intent to injure = 0 games.

I thought it was a clean hit, if Hossa doesn't get carted off the ice this is a non issue.

  • Gets one right? Torres has a history, but the play was part of a hockey game. He leaves his feet and obliterates Hossa, but it's far from being anything extremely dirty. It's definitely suspendable, but 25 games? Shea Weber does something after the game has ended with clear malicious intent and gets 0 games.

  • I find it hilarious that Weber did not get shit for slamming someone's head into the boards. They even called a penalty on Weber. Torres gets suspended for a hard hit on a guy that did not keep his head up. There was no penalty called for this hit either. Only reason for this suspension is because Hossa was injured. NHL is a fucking joke now.

It was charging and interference coupled with the head being the principal point of contact. Definitely not clean.

Same difference(he used to play for Pittsurgh so he gets the same protection) lol

You apparently missed where Torres clearly leaves his feet before making contact with Hossa, and the first point of contact of the hit is Torres' shoulder to the head. Shanahan gets this one right, with Torres having done this several times already in the last few years. Maybe he'll learn this time.

Yeah after looking at it again, it was really excessive. My apologies.

  • The hit was bad and he's a repeat offender. But 25 games? Come on. What pisses me off about all of this though, is Shanahan and his BS runaround excuses. Intent should have a lot to do with suspensions being handed out. The hit was bad, but it was still, in a sense, a hockey play. Weber pulls an effing WWE move and CLEARLY shows that he his trying to hurt Z as the game ended. And yet Shanahan gives him a slap on the wrist. It is woefully inconsistent IMHO. Weber let his frustration get to him and lashed out at the end of the game. If his first punch and squarely landed on the back of Z's head (and it would have if Z hadn't slipped and fallen), Z could have been hurt very, very badly. What if a player had swung his stick at a player's head at the end of the game and just happened to miss? What would happen to that player?

If there's one thing the NHL continues to prove, it's that they have zero consistency.

yes sir! u are 100% correct. NHL still has alot of corrections to make to get back to the game is was 10-15 years ago.

the other night the coyote player got game misconduct for not having jersey tied down. ridiculous

You're right. Shanny realizes he blew the Weber hit. Hopefully he learns from it unlike his idiot predecessor. He got this one right, let's hope he finally shows consistency from now on.

The NHL is not interested in returning to the ugly, boring hockey of a decade ago.

By the way, you need to have your jersey tied down otherwise you have a serious advantage in a fight. That's the reason for the rule. If your jersey is not tied down and you fight, you go to the locker room. That's the rule.

Torres jumped into the hit and got him in the head. Very dirty and dangerous.

But given the slap on the wrist suspensions or no suspensions we've seen most of the year, this one surprises me quite a bit.

That fighting strap rule has been in the league since right after Probie's time. It's a ridiculous advantage in a fight to not have your jersey tied down.

  • For the record-- that's more then burtuzzi got against Scott Moore.

Shanny is trying to send a message, too bad his other lack of actions makes this punishment even worse

    Tiger v Gorilla

  • Weber's ruling was a joke, but if you listen to Shanahan's explanation this one makes sense. No one wants other teams players targeted and the thug get 1 or 2 games, esp if thug is a serious repeat offender. If this is allowed you will see more of it.

Carcillo of the Hawks got a big suspension during the season because he was a repeat offender.

With the info now available on concussions, you can't allow head hunting.

You're wrong. 10 + years ago the devils and any team Jacque Lemaire coached turned the league into nothing but a trapping, hooking, and holding quagmire. It took the slaying of the first born and sworn eye witness testimony to get a penalty called. If you want to go back to an era try the 80's.
