Red Cedar Rumblings - Jones, Young, Burbridge, incoming freshmen

Most of the 2012 recruits will be red-shirted. Some of the 2012 recruits will have a chance to see the field as true Fr., again I'll use the word "chance", are : LS Taybor Pepper - Could be the starting LS. TE Jamare Mills (JUCO) - Experience and thin depth @ TE give him an opportunity to contribute immediately. WR Kyle Kerrick - Early enrollment gives him a leg up on the other Fr. WR's. TE Josiah Price - The staff would prefer to red-shirt him but he may be needed @ TE. S/ATH Demetrious Cox - May make more of a contribution as a true Fr. on offense rather than defense as a Wildcat QB, RB, WR in the Keshawn Martin role. WR Aaron Burbridge - May be too talented to keep off the field. ATH McGarrett Kings - He is a dynamic KO and Punt returner. Can play slot receiver and RB and is so athletic he may see the field early. WR Monty Madaris - If he can learn the offense quickly enough, he brings size, speed and is a real deep threat.

I think that's a pretty good list. However, if Cox is really benching 345 I think he may just have a shot to make some noise on defense. The 2nd safety and nickleback spots aren't settled yet and Demetrious might be able to force himself in there. At the very least I think he'll make the spot that much more competitive.

  • Why would Jackson even consider Notre Dame over MSU? Notre Dame doesn't even compare to MSU.

He's definitely ready to play physically... it's just a question of how fast he can grasp the system, and how developed his skillset is in comparison to Drummond and Williamson.

Is Colquhoun a safety or a CB now? I can't remember if he got moved over.

Getting Tyus Jones would be a program changer, and its looking good for us hopfully Izzo can pull this guy in but how are we looking with JaQuan, Jahlil, and Cliff.

We get Tyus Jones and the rest of the class will take care of itself. IMO, he is biggest early piece to that class.

Jackson lives very close to ND and they offered him early.

That said, I believe he is MSU's if they want him

If we can get Tyus early, then he can help us get Jahlil, Cliff, JaQuan, and Drake

You can definitely understand why the kid doesn't want to go to JUCO. He's a big time player who could start as a true freshman. Not many kids would be thrilled about going to a community college. There's definitely a motivating factor.

Also, it doesn't seem as if he's unintelligent. It sounds like he was just unmotivated in school early on (I had a similar problem as well). As soon as he qualifies, he'll have a fresh start academically.

    so did einstein

  • I would love to get an athletic Center that can play with his back to the basket and hit a 15 foot jumper, kinda like Paul Davis. We need someone we can throw the ball down to when the other players shots aren't falling. I still have nightmares about the 42 point game at Illinois.

CB as of spring ball, though Waynes is ahead of him at the moment.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Is this guy related to the former MSU hoops player from Flint?

Don't think so. Taybor Pepper is from Saline, MI.

Demetrious Cox may work into the 2-Deeps @ one of the safety spots or possibly @ Nickle Back but MSU has quality depth and experience at the safety spots and several candidates for the Nickle back spot.
Isaiah Lewis, Jairus Jones, Kurtis Drummond, R. J. Williamson, Mylan Hicks, Chris Laneaux, Trae Waynes, Arjen Colquhoun, Dana Dixon and Mitchell White.
The staff isn't going to burn Cox's red-shirt just to cover kicks. There is plenty of quality depth for that. I feel Cox could make more of a contribution this season on offense rather than defense.

  • Super excited about Cox. MSU is really getting athletes. I think MSU has several guys who could play both ways as a DB/WR like Adams, Lippett, and Cox.

To me that is also a sign of a great defense. Guys who are good enough to play both ways. I think Kittredge and Gholston could both play TE too if they needed them too.

Any chance they will use Adams at WR some and PR this year? I think KR would be kind of risky but he is a playmaker.

Arjen Colquhoun was @ CB during Spring practice but he may move to S this Fall.

Last I heard he's still getting his head around American football. Steep learning curve for the guy.

Johnny Adams might be used as a WR for some special plays this season because of his downfield speed. He was a very good WR in HS.
He is too valuable on defense to risk him on returns.
There are other players who can be effective in the return game, like Nick Hill, Andre Sims, Tony Lippett, Keith Mumphery and DeAnthony Arnett. Also, incoming Fr. McGarrett Kings is a dynamite KO and Punt returner..

The physical aspect of the game is not a problem for Arjen. He is one of the best athletes on the team. It's the mental aspect of the game in learning to play in a much more complicated defensive system than he ever had to in HS.
Also, some nagging injuries have slowed his development and really limited his practice time.
