Trout may be ranked #1 in OH by 247, but a lot of people in OH who know football would put Richardson #1 and Byrnes #2.
Byrnes already has an OSU offer and the Bucks are thought to be the team to beat. At 6'4" he may be more on an OG/C if he doesn't get taller although he moves really well. Richardson they are very high on as well, and he likes OSU as well (Columbus kid).
With OSU in on so many national kids (Prince, Orlando Brown Jr, KC kid from FLA, etc) Trout may very well be MSU's for the taking. Definitely an OT candidate, a very fine player. If Tressel coached OSU he'd be a Buckeye. As is I think MSU has a good shot and he would be a great get.

No, I'm not lost.
And BTW, I attended both schools (osu undergrad and MSU grad), I live in Ohio and pay a great deal of attention to Ohio high school football.
As soon as Meyer was hired at OSU I knew he would expand his recruiting efforts, leaving a lot of very good OH players that previously would have stayed home under Tressel, looking for a school. That obviously is great for MSU, not only because its close and a good football school, but Dantonio is highly respected among the OH high school football coaches. MSU is reaping those rewards (Hicks, Madaris, McGowan, etc).
The article made it seem like while OSU hadn't offered Trout, if they do they will be hard to beat. Another poster showed Trout is #1 OL in OH per 247. My point is MSU likely won't even have to compete with the in-state school for his services...he is down the list for OSU. I would love to see him at State.
So, to steal a line from you, go "fellate" yourself.

Not saying this is the case, but does it matter if the only reason State gets Trout is bc OSU didn't offer him? All I care is that State gets the players Dantonio wants. Going into another state and taking their best players is very hard, and going head-to-head with a strong in-state school for a player is like fighting a guy with one arm tied behind your back. You are competing against all the kids' friends, parents, coaches, and tradition. If the in-state school doesn't push hard for the kid you have the best chance. Nothing wrong with that. If FSU, Miami had gone hard after Chris Gamble, would he have been a star at OSU? Who cares, he was.
Bennie McGowan came from a hugely pro-OSU school, his buddy Michael Bennett went to OSU...but OSU didn't show him the love, demanded he "earn an offer" at their camp after he had great film and camp circuit. He went to State. I'm glad he did, he's an animal. It doesn't matter why he went there to me.
The longer Dantonio is at State and the more wins he has, the more recruiting cache he will have. He beat OSU head-to-head for Cox. It's coming, but it takes time. I would.love to see him hit PA and Chicago harder, areas that have weak in-state powers currently.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I can see how it may have come accross that way...not my intention.
What is great for State is this: Tressel won a NC with players like Trout, Worthy, Hicks, etc. and adding in 20-30% OOS kids. If Dantonio can pick up these good players, keep his leverage in Michigan vs scUM, and stay successful down south (or even improve dare we say), he has the talent on hand to compete for NCs. Maybe not every year like USC and Bama, but runs can be made. THAT is awesome to think about. That's real.

I approve this message great post.
Its just I believe coach d shouldnt have to take a back seat to anyone . The mantra has been we get players that osu didnt want or have room for. I know there may have been some truth to that in the past but msu has earned a seat at the big boy table based on performance on the field. Coach d and staff have earned that right. -

The majority of Ohio kids will have a strong affinity for OSU, and it is harder for anyone OOS to get them. Just like it would have been hard (impossible) to get a Bullough out of Michigan for OSU. You think OSU didn't recruit Gholston (vernon was his cousin) or Lawrence Thomas?
Has nothing to do with taking a backseat...the home team is usually the favorite (unless you live in Jersey!)
