Not a big fan, but he has been on TV since the beginning of television and goes out, at 80 y/o, with a top rated show. Dude deserves props.

He is notable only as a wuss for putting up with that chick-centric programming with Frank Gifford's wife and the annoying color-coordinated same-shade suit-shirt tie thing he made popular for a while. That's it.

Regis Philbin is a guy who is just nice. Never offends, perfect for that morning show format and he has always made the women on the show be more of the star and he had 3 or 4 women as his co-hosts.
ps
He is a unapologetic ND alum and fan. By his own admission he was a C HS student and was admitted into ND before Father Hesburgh took over in the early 1950's and started turning into true academic competitor to BC and Georgetown.

He's famous because he start his first job was the same format at the beginnings of TV, stayed working in TV. When he was past 50 he started a nationally syndicated show that's lasted over 25 years and 3 female co-hosts.
Kim, her sisters and show's producer mom are on cable and in 25 years will be the US version of the Gabor sisters without the acting credits
We should all hope to be in demand and earning $1 million/year at 80.
