Robbed at gunpoint in Italy...

So I am with the family in Italy. We had taken a train from Rome to Naples where we were going to take the kids to see Pompei. I knew Naples (Napoli) was shady so I was already on guard for pick pockets, etc. What I wasn't prepared for was to have a gunman on a motorcycle jump off his bike and enter our cab with a gun to my head. Lost some Euros and a pretty nice watch, but considering what the alternative could have been...I'll say we were pretty lucky. Long story short, the kids and wife were pretty traumatized.
Gonna be saying a few prayers of thanks in St. Peter's tomorrow.

I love all the message board tough guys that would have shit their pants in a similar situation. I actually did put up a struggle at first as I couldn't understand a word of what was being said...and obviously didn't take kindly to someone jumping in my cab with a gun. But once I realized he wanted my watch, and my kids and wife are screaming "just give it to him" from the backseat, I wisely relented. The alternative situation could have ended badly.

Just tell them to avoid Naples like the plague. It's not a destination by any means, but it's the closest city to travel to if they wanted to see Pompei. Everywhere else I have been in Italy (this is my 4th time) has been incredibly positive.

Did you get travelers insurance? How much was the watch worth? If its worth significantly more than your deductible I'd file a claim.
Edit: homeowners or renters insurance should cover too.
