Seems to me we have a pretty good chance to compete for the BCS title this year and next year, we must be doing something right.

  • Losing Hurst, eh, um is going to get theirs. Losing Robbins, a legacy, to fucking Georgia Tech? That should raise some eyebrows. GT blows. BCS bowl the other year was a joke and always will be...its the shitty acc.

  • I am not familiar with football recruiting, so I'm not just asking this to be difficult.

What, precisely, do you want Dantonio to do differently? Is there some "strategy" that he could have used that would have landed these guys? What specifically needs to be changed>

Or do we just need more sustained success as a program?

Georgia Tech was in a BCS Bowl two years ago... you people know that right? He fits in their 3-4 defense as well.

Hurst was a pretty heavy Michigan lean.

    Read up on things.

So you consider Georgia Tech a bettwer decision than coming here?

The loss of Robbins isn't that shocking. He wanted to play with his high school teammate.

  • Honestly I don't care about losing out on the high level recruits because you don't need high level recruits to win and that is being proving by the coaching staff and players we recruit. We will get some high level recruits that will help us in the years to come. We as MSU fans should not try and compete with UM in recruiting because if you didn't notice they had a much better recruiting class than MSU did the past 4 years and we all know who won those 4 games. Yes it would be nice to have 1 top 25 class every now and than but it does not have an affect on our football program. We will win with a bunch of 2 star recruits if we have to because of the foundation Dantonio and company has built. At the end of the day we should be happy for the recruits that truly wanted to be Spartans and decided to commit to MSU.

MD rarely signs any 2 stars any more. Overwhelmingly 3 stars or better. Some of the 2 stars have been exceptional. Leveon Bell sound familiar?

MSU is probably going to have another 5 years straight like the last 2 seasons to consistently compete with UM and SEC schools for heralded blue chip recruits.

Even then a lot of these southern kids want to play closer to home so their relatives can come to their games. MSU still won't get those kids.

What matters most is the performance on the field. Doesn't matter if we win with heralded recruits or dark horses if we still win.

I love this staff more than anything. Believe me. I love the direction of this program. But we need to start changing tactics a little bit. Make no mistake about it, we are a better program than UM right now, and it's not paying dividends on the recruiting trail. I know, takes time etc etc... I love our class thus far, but something more needs to be done. Downvote me, but it's the reality. Get the hands dirty and get after it.

We will never recruit like SCum or the SEC. That is why Dantonio is successful here. We needed a coach that could turn those 3/2 stars into game changers. He knew that coming in at MSU. Build depth with numbers early. Get to the point where you can recruit for quality not quantity. If you play catch up and rush yourself in recruiting you will make mistakes. Dantonio has the option to redshirt the majority of freshman classes. It was his plan all along.

  • So Robbins decided on GT. He's from the East Coast. For him Atlanta is just a direct flight home.

A few days earlier, 5-23 his fellow D-Line teammate from HS 3* DT Darius Commissiong had committed to GT. MSU didn't offer Commissiong. Don't know why but package deals do exist. There are a lot of factors besides the MSU legacey connection where we are all in the dark.

Have to remember but Dantonio and staff are talking to players on what they will be in the future, telling them MSU redshits for player development and why that's beneficial. in aa we saw the rr purge and other players getting "Hoked". In aa they have a different situation and PT is promoted.

As hard as it is to admit MSU has a long way to go to catch up with umaa when it comes to recruiting buzz. Even with the rr trainwreck (thst ended too soon) MSU football was falling off when Canham hired Schembechler. MSU had very few successful years while Schembechler started 40 years of very consistant winning. Dantonio has turned the corner but umaa had one helluva head start.

Weird, it seems to me it just delivered the most successful 2-year run in school history, led to the senior class with most wins in school history, has produced a bowl-bound team every year under Dantonio, beat um 4 years running, just won the inaugural Legends division crown, beat a mighty SEC team in a bowl game in Jan and just had 6 kids get drafted and another 3 get picked up as FAs in NFL camps.

But yeah, you're totally right, this "family" thing Dantonio's built blows.

We can't recruit for shit, and it shows on the field!

Is it time to hire a recruiting coordinator, or whatever you call them?

Just like every other school, we have one..Mark Staten. The misconception that any school has just a guy who handles recruiting is wrong.

Maybe I am 10%er here but that stupid excuse is getting old. We will be just fine..

  • jeebus it never ends around here. Yes, the Dline is a concern but Gill and Dantonio are in the house: no need to panic.(worse case scenario they'll plug the leak with a JUCO or two)

As Rocky has pointed out 100 times: we will need 3-5 more solid seasons before we are recruiting with the big boys. That's the bad news, the good news is we have the perfect staff to make it happen. At the risk of sounding like Bacon in animal house: all is well.

  • and don't forget the relative ease of the 2013 and 2014 schedules. That will help us continue having big win seasons and good bowl games to show off for recruits.
