Just finalized my trip for the game against those red bastards. Was wondering if anyone had any experience tailgating down there.

Ive been to a couple games at IU (and met my GF of 10 years there). Not a super crazy scene, but its a nice environment and tickets are very easy to come by. It is Homecoming (as someone mentioned) but I still anticipate tickets to be easy to come by. I'll be there again on the 6th setting up tailgate with a group of Spartans and a couple Hoosiers. Every Spartan is invited to come by for Jello shots and some beer pong or flip cup.

Most of the tailgating at IU happens in the grass/wooded area directly south of the stadium and on campus at the various fraternity houses.
South of 17th st between North Indiana and North Walnut Grove Street:

I've never attended an IU homecoming game, but I went to last year's game against Illinois and there was ample parking everywhere. It shouldn't be a problem.
I'll write up a guide to Bloomington a week before we play them. There are tons of douchebags, but they can be easily avoided. The girlfriend is in the Education Graduate School down there - we'll call her "Judas" - so I've really gotten to know it well over the last year.

I went to school down there - the best place to tailgate is the grass area south of the stadium as mentioned above. A few things of note about B'town:
Campus is awesome, worth a walk around. Especially the western part of campus near downtown. The bars/restaurants are great. It's been a while, but I'm sure the mainstays are still there. Nick's, Yogi's, and Lil' Kilroy's are popular. Bluebird, Big Kilroy's (Sports) are bigger and more of a younger crowd.
Some decent restaurants, try the Irish Lion or the mother of all steak house - little Zagreeb's. If you are partying late, don't try to call a cab, you'll be waiting hours. Go to the cab stand. There's only one company in town so call and ask where the stand is.

Careful. It's very dangerous for a Spartan to be walking around Bloomington... there isn't a more intense rivalry in sports.

See pic for student tailgating area (referred to on campus as "the fields). It's actually a really great tailgate. Same as visiting any stadium - there are great fans and crappy fans, it helps if you're not a douche yourself.
If you're looking for more low-key, any of the paved or gravel tailgating areas adjoining the stadium are better; you won't find much harassment there. Tons of parking, shouldn't be a problem.
