Roushar Leaving For NFL

  • spartyon1 said...

You should check out Hondo's board (spartannation.com)....it's like a funeral over there. They take their cue from Hondo and he VEHEMENTLY claims it isnt' Roushar's fault.....says that Staten and Warner are to blame and that the conservative nature of Dantonio's offensive philosophy handcuffed Roushar. I think it's complete horseshit, but whatever.

Didn't his relatively poor results as of mirror his results as oc at Illinois?

    Yea Dantonio is very conservative.

    Signed,

    Fake punt PSU
Fake Punt against scUM this year
    Little Giants
    Mouse Trap
    4th and goal against Wisconsin.

The problem is that Roushar was as predictable as hell and made no in-game adjustments whatsoever---Treadwell, whether you loved or hate him at least knew when and how to make adjustments at halftime.

Good Riddance Dan--good luck in Nawlins.

Roushar had clinker game plans against ND the last 2 years and against Nebraska at Lincoln.

We can all see good plays called with a lack of execution in the losses to Iowa, Northwestern, Nebraska, OSU and umaa this year. Everything wasn't hunky dory but it wasn't simply Roushar and nothing else.

One has to believe Dantonio didn't think things were going to get better. Perhaps after Treadwell and Enos leaving there wasn't the staff chemistry Dantonio hoped for. Roushar could have decided that NFL offers aren't an everyday occurrence and New Orleans was about as good as it was going to get.

I will give you injuries but lack of execution is on the coaches. You can defend him all you want, he was terrible with play calling--he never made adjustments ever.

You still bland with hate? I am not defending Dan Roushar.

Simply pointing out that all the games listed there were multiple plays where the players made errors from fumbling on or near the goal line, dropped passes that hit their hands in catch-able positions, even missed FG's where each could have been wins.

If you think that's a defense you are bat crazy.

The reason(s) Dan Roushar is going to the NFL has a lot more with how he was getting along with his fellow coaches, how Dantonio thought they were communicating, how Dantonio felt about Roushar's ability to work with the new assistants etc.

Then there is what Dan Roushar thought was best for his coaching career. Roushar is pushing 50. Getting an NFL job isn't like getting hired at Meijer. A lot of NFL coaches don't spend as much time coaching in college as Roushar. Could be he decided he would rather make MAC HC money as an NFL assistant without the drama of recruiting.

  • So the 90% of us on here that demanded Roushar's head got our wish in a strange way after Coach D took his stand behind him. Has anyone on here actually wondered if there was an effort to retain Roushar as much as there was to retain Narduzzi when other teams came courting last year?

I'm not asking the question to look for a quarrel with anyone here. Just posing the question as means to say that this might have been a quiet way out for Roushar that saves face for him, make the program look good by saying a coach from MSU has moved on to an NFL level, and offers the program an opportunity to move forward in the direction it wants to pursue with the mobile QB's we'll be bringing in as well as adapting to some of the new offenses that are being utilized in college FB.

Saves face for the program as a whole. Make MSU look good for "graduating" an assistant to the NFL. Offers an opportunity to move forward in other ways on the offense.

    Win-win for everyone.

We might never know for sure but I think you nailed it.

Regardless, we are all moving on which I think is indeed good for everyone.

You are going to be sorry if our offense slips from #102 in the nation to #112.

We shouldn't be taking that chance.

  • That was it...Roushar can exceed as a position coach and get the NFL experience....MSU can re-load at OC.

    Good point.

Funny the difference in the Board when Duzzi was flirting with leaving. The RCMB freaked out.

In this case, the RCMB is packing Roushar's bags (figuratively speaking).

Same token, I don't wish Roushar any ill-will. I think he was in over his head as an OC.

  • Congrats and best of luck in the NFL Coach Roushar.

  • Good timing for him on the move to the NFL. He was in over his head as the OC probably would've been good if he stayed as OL coach. Experimented and it just didnt work out. He certainly wasnt helped by the horrid play by our wr bunch the first five games, then the OL injuries then poor qb play.

In the end he just had too many poor play calling and lack of adjustment issues.

At his age he probably topped off at OC at MSU now going to the NFL and working with his buddies from the Illini he can pull a booby Williams spend three years and get an NFL pension and who knows it may even be a good fit for him.

  • I truly wish the best for Coach Roushar. Whether you supported him or not, he was still a Spartan for a number of years. I was as disappointed as anyone in the lack of offensive production last year but by no means was that all Roushar's fault. Every game I watched on tv this year, at least at one point the announcers would praise his play calling. Those of you who think he did nothing right only saw what you wanted to see. It was just a perfect storm of a number of things that negatively impacted the O - injuries, inexperience, etc.

With that said, I'm excited to see what direction Coach Dantonio takes with the new OC. My gut says external hire.
