No, tRCMB way is tearing them down before they have a chance to get on the court. All this talk about "when he doesn't pan out" is fucking bogus and shouldn't be allowed on here. He's a goddamn Spartan, have a little trust in Izzo for god's sake. no

You forget that Izzo no longer knows what he's doing according to many posters on this board.

    Don't post poop!

Right. He had a high percentage because he scored from 12 feet and in. Anyone who saw him knew the perimeter was not his friend. He got to the rack a lot.

If you're averaging 33 ppg, being a "great shooter" certainly has something to do with that as well.

Based on what? How many 25 foot jumpers did Wilt make when he scored 100?

He was most definitely not a great shooter in high school and by "great shooter" I'm talking about from the perimeter. He scored the vast majority of his points inside the arc.

So now you're comparing the way Wilt scored to the way Dahlman scored?

Ok, so the definition of a "great shooter" is someone who can shoot well from behind the arc? Ok, then...was he at least a "pretty good" shooter from inside the arc? wink_msu

no he's saying you dont have to be a great shooter to score alot of points. dahlman was in no way a great shooter. he shot a high percentage because he was slashing in for layups and close range j's. dahlman was not good from the perimeter at all

  • I know its been said before, but I feel it needs to be said again: Diebler was awful his freshman year, wasn't he?

    Big John Studd

  • Here's even the "Scout.com" evaluation of him.

    STRENGTHS
    Basketball IQ
    Mid-Range Game
    Shooting Off Dribble

    AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT
    3-Point Range
    Rebounding
    Speed/Quickness

"Comes from a long line of players and coaches. Loves to wear it out from mid-range and is comfortable shooting with skill off screens or off the bounce. Will need to get stronger. He's his own toughest critic. Left-handed. "

Everyone thought he was a 3-point threat because he was white for some reason.

So he was good from mid-range. I remember people thinking he was going to be a great 3-point shooter, and perhaps you're right about that because of his skin color. That seems kind of silly, though.

its seems silly buuuut how do white guys generally get on a basketball team? they are either huge or can flat out shoot the ball. since dahlman is white and isn't huge i think that was the natural conclusion

  • So sick of this board's over-hyping white players. Dahlman, Thornton, Sherman. Next up: Byrd, Gauna, Costello.

Want all these guys to kill it every day, but not going to fool myself into thinking that they'll be meaningful contributors next season or even 2012-13.

Or Drew Neitzel and Chris Hill's consistent 4 years of shooting the lights out.

    Your sarcasm is noted.

Drew Neitzel: 273 3-Pointers, 39.9% Career, 39.8% Senior year (worst %after spot duty true frosh year)

Chris Hill: 305 3-Pointers, 41.6% Career, 36.5% Senior year (worst)

Would you really be disappointed with that type of production?

    Thronton had hype?

And help me out in regards to the others; are you saying 4-star recruits shouldn't have any hype, or just not the white ones?

  • I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Byrd will be 3rd or 4th in scoring on the team next year.

    1. Day Day
    2. Appling
    3. Dawson/Roe/Payne?
    4. Byrd

Numerous posters, myself included, were thrilled when Thornton walked on, hailing him as an outside shooting threat with a "high basketball IQ".

No four star (or five star or three star or no star) recruit--white/black/anyone else--should be assumed to be a contributor before he has even played in one game.

You're right. None of Dawson, Anderson, Gauna, Byrd, Trice, and Kearney are guaranteed to contribute! We're screwed! uhoh

There's nothing wrong with getting excited about incoming players, especially when they've received high praise from coaches and scouts alike. The whole "temper your excitement" crowd on here are a bunch of debbie downers.

What's the point of tempering your excitement as a fan anyway? Isn't being a fan just about being excited to see a team play?

I'm not a coach. I'm not a manager. I'm not a player. My expectations have no real effect on the team's performance, so who cares what I'm excited about?

  • I dont know why we have to over analyze this shit anyways. They are a bunch of kids/very young men and they are talented as hell or they wouldnt be playing ball in college.

there are moments when I curse message boards/sports talk radio, and these are it. Why dont we let the kid play for a while, and then we can talk about how he did, and what we hope he will be. Enough of this player bashing all the damn time.

Player bashing. Poster on Poster bashing. Coach bashing. This shit makes me tired of this fucking place.
