Rutgers: Not such a bad fit after all?

THESE ARE THE SAME TEAMS. Rutgers can just score more than MSU.

The school for the blind could score more

Rutgers won the very first college football game 6-4. Why would we not want this historic tradition added to the big?

Wow, Roushar has been coaching for a long time.

I did some research and crunched some numbers on Rutgers football this season to see what we could expect in 2014. I decided I would compare them to the Big Ten school most like them. I noticed that Rutgers' total team defense ranking was 14. MSU's is 7. Rutgers' team offense ranking is 96. MSU's is 94. So I decided to compare teams to stop people from saying "Rutgers plays in the Big East, so they are way worse than any Big Ten team.

Rutgers total offense: 96 Mich St. total offense: 94

Rutgers total defense: 14 Mich St. total defense: 7

The average offensive ranking of teams played by Rutgers: 67.7 The average offensive ranking of teams played by Mich St.: 66.7

The average defensive ranking of teams played by Rutgers: 69.1 The average defensive ranking of teams played by Mich St.: 47.3

MSU plays slightly tougher defenses (the difference between 47 and 69 is only 28 yards per game) but Rutgers scores more efficiently.

Mich St. has scored 23 TDs Rutgers has scored 32 TDs

Mich St. scoring offense: 108 Rutgers scoring offense: 87

THESE ARE THE SAME TEAMS. Rutgers can just score more than MSU.

Good post. Rutgers has alot of potential as a football program and will be able to maximize that in the B1G., The move should do wonders for Rutgers recruiting.

Nobody's going to make the case that our SEASON is better than Rutgers'. We are saying that our program, and athletic department as a whole, is superior.

    Oh, well, duh.

  • Once a skeptic of the UMd/Rut deal & would have preferred at VT/UVA deal. But this may work well except for ACC types used to close-in road trips. UVA and VT were never easy weekend trips anyway from the national cap region.

UMd and Rutgers are sort of like S - not elitist tools but good program academics across the board.

College Pk is a shithole compared to EL but btwn it and Rutgers we may have enough for a regional show of force after 2014.

So in order to statistically defend Rutgers' play, you bring up the fact that they play in arguably one of the worst conferences? Got it. MSU is not a Big Least team. They only realized once the "group of five" started in 2014 that they were on the same field as the Sun Belt and chose the best suitor to bolster their strength of schedule.

No, this argument states that even though Rutgers plays in the Big East, the competition that have faced on average is equal to that of Michigan State, and Rutgers is 9-1. Also, I never said Rutgers is better as a program. I said that we better watch out calling this move "an automatic win" for Big Ten teams. Rutgers could beat MSU this season, and I suspect for seasons to come.

Rutgers football has beaten us 3 of 5 times, I think that they be good enough. End of discussion...

  • It's not about football success.

It's about adding more douchebag fans to the conference. Like we needed more with U of M, OSU, Wisconsin and Penn State's Wicker Man cult.
