SHOOT THE BALL APPLING!

  • I've watched the kid since he was in high school and he has ALWAYS been a lights out shooter but for some reason he hit a slump this year and won't get out of it. He needs to shoot, shoot, and shoot until he gets his swagger back. It takes some mental toughness and I'm disgusted that teams are disrespecting him and he's not trying to make them pay. We will go as far as he takes us. Your point guard is like your quarterback.

  • I'd settle for some penetration (shake)

Every single one and I've been at some practices too idiot. The kid is a shooter as you saw in the second half and you'll see in the future. I didn't start rooting for Appling once he put on green and white, it started before that.

  • He's the second best player on this team. I don't know how/why he lost his confidence but if that jumper gets it back this will be a very difficult team to defend.

I am gravely disappointed. Again you have made me unleash my dogs of war.

  • When they're sagging back that far, he needs to shoot the three. Even if he misses, it may force them to guard him closer which helps the ball movement.

The farting birds will stop when the crappy topics do

  • Ended up with a game high 19 points. Not top shabby for someone who was so passive. You got the sense that he was not taking those open shots because he wanted to run the offense the way it was supposed to run and manage the game the way it's supposed to. It's simply not MSU and Izzo basketball to come down the court and take pull up 3-pointers.

  • He's lost his confidence and his shot is very flat. He's too good of a baskeball player not to make adjustments during the summer. But that's next year, you can't have your point guard left unguarded at the three point line being dared to shoot! That's brutal and doesn't bode well going forward this year. He's gotta get it together and fast! Pitino and everyone else in the country took notice!

Draymond Green would also agree with your sentiment.

  • I was yelling that at the tv all day. His man was five feet off of him, and he would not shoot. Appling's best skill is his ability to drive. He is so fast, and does a great job getting into the lane. If he starts taking the open jump shots, he forces the defenders to play up on him, which makes it easier for him to drive the ball. I really hope to see him do this against Louisville.

Have you watched the last 10 or so? This kid has head issues or something. SLU was giving him at least 6 feet when he had the ball beyond the arc and he rarely took the 3. When he did shoot he would need a pick and would have to take two steps inside the arc. Kid needs his confidence back, if he would have taken and made a few threes we wouldn't have needed him and AT to look like Shaq on the free throw line as we went to the wire.

The whole game I was screaming at him to shoot. His man kept collapsing into the paint. I was watching with a guy from St. Louis, and was telling him how Appling was a shooter but had lost his confidence.

When he hit that three late I was ecstatic.

Keith is going to be awesome the next two years. BANK IT!

  • Appling has seemed to lose the "lift" in his shot the 2nd half of the season. His jumper comes out of his hand as a line drive with little arch. He doesn't miss anything too bad and with a little lift those shots hitting off the front and back iron will have a chance to go in (see late 3).

His shot looked very flat yesterday. That wad the same problem wood was having earlier. Now he is throwing up rainbows, and ot seems like everything is falling

Appling has never been a lights out shooter. He has always been a lights out scorer, big difference, and I know you know that.

He is in a bit of a slump and has lost some confidence to be sure, but that was not the only reasons he was not shooting. You could see him fighting himself a bit yesterday wanting to shoot it so bad, but knowing he is now a PG first and didn't want to jack it up every trip without getting others involved. Him jacking up 3s every trip would negate MSU's strength right now, and that is pounding down low to Nix (and lesser extent Payne), and funneling through Day Day. it was a calculated mind trap by SLU, and I think Appling handled it pretty well.

  • We have asked so much from Keith. . . be the distributor. . . defend the best guard on the opponent's team. . . penetrate. . . be the 3 point shooter. . . I love the kids game and his heart. Yea he will continue to work on his game this summer, and he will be even better next year, but he has been everything we can ask for this year and more. And I do believe if his shot picks up he has a future in the NBA.

    whittierspartan

  • Draymond let him have it at halftime and told him he wasn't going to make any shots because he didn't believe he could. Looks like Appling got the message and came back strong in the 2nd half. Got to love Day Day and his leadership on this team.

This x 100. The kid has done an incredible job this year will all that the coaches have asked him to do. He is a work is progress and will get better Yesterday will go along way toward that end.

  • Keith went 5 of 7 in the 2nd half, 4 makes were jumpers.

Hopefully we'll have SLU to thank for giving him a little bit of confidence back and perhaps turn the corner from the outside.

    Hopefully.
