Rexrode interviews the author in today's LSJ..... The title of the book made me laugh out loud..... it's great that it's a Domer that wrote it (though he did grow up in EL....) He says he has enough material for a second book, detailing crap that went on throughout the 1950's....

Just finished this book. It's a must-read for any MSU football historian.
The author refers to himself as an "amateur historian," but he did a really thorough job of researching his subject. However, he is an amateur writer. The book is overly long b/c it's repetitive, and it ends weakly, not talking at all about the reaction to MSU's Big Ten entry, or how we fared once in the conference. He could've done a better job relating it to recent Big Ten expansion efforts, and left out how he's become jaded about college football.
Still, some REALLY interesting facts about the history of the Big Ten, (for instance, Nebraska had tried to get in repeatedly, beginning in the early 20th century, and our main competition to replace the University of Chicago was Pitt), and who our friends and enemies were in the Big Ten, (friends: Minny, Purdue, IU, enemies: mainly um). And if you don't know why you should have a festering hatred for um, read this book.
Not a perfect effort, but if you like being knowledgeable about MSU football, read it.

Finished this book last week and found it to be very enjoyable and very interesting. Yes, it was strangely put together - it read more like a text book at times - but the info covered was impressive. I will have to buy my Minnesota friends a beer the next time I see them.
Hannah comes off as a freaking rock star.
Ralph Young, not so much.
And if anyone needed another 1000 reasons to hate the University of Michigan and everything for which it stands - this book provides them and the references to back them up. Also it is laughable that anyone would claim anything about college athletic events which happened prior to WW2 - I'm looking at you Michigan and your mythical championships - the game was clearly such a different beast back them.SpartanElement
